Image Description: Mr. Bucklesy, Shelby, Mississippi, was a portrait I made in the small rural town of Shelby Mississippi in the heart of the Delta. The image always spoke to me showing the deep, powerful and beautiful culture and Mr. Bucklesy's style and the dignity and pride he effused. My book, Delta Time, published by the Smithsonian Institution Press in 1994, looks at rural Black poverty, cotton and the southern landscape with an essay by the legendary civil rights organizer Bob Moses.

Photographer's Bio: Ken Light has exhibited internationally in over 225 one-person and group shows, including one-person shows at the International Center for Photography, the Oakland Museum of California, the San Jose Museum of Modern Art, Visa pour L'image Perpignan (France), International Fotoage (Germany), Yerba Buena Center S.F. and Smith College. His work is part of collections at the San Francisco MOMA, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the International Center of Photography and the American Museum of Art at the Smithsonian, among many others. He is the Reva and David Logan Professor of Photojournalism and curator of the Center for Photography at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California Berkeley.
