Image Title: Eagle Hunters
Paper Dimensions (H x W): 20x24
Image Dimensions (H x W): 19x23
Year Created: 2018
Image Description: Talgat Ersultan, 15 years old, is photographed on their way to the Golden Eagle Festival in Bayan Ulgii, Mongolia, where more than 100 eagle hunters gathered to compete.
Photographer's Bio: Hannah Reyes Morales grew up in Manila, witnessing loved ones emigrate from home each year. These departures, along with the discovery of a shelf of dusty photographic magazines, stirred her interest in concerned photography. She has photographed forced marriages in Cambodia, the toll of Duterte's war on drugs, and has documented the Filipino diaspora. Her work in Mongolia chronicled the once-dwindling art of eagle hunting now being passed on to a new generation of Altai Kazakh nomads, who are keeping it alive amidst modernity (For more on this story, visit nytimes here.)
She contributes work to The New York Times, The Washington Post, and National Geographic Magazine, among others. In 2019 she participated in the World Press Photo's Joop Swart Masterclass and received the Tim Hetherington Visionary Award. She received the International Center for Photography's Infinity Award for Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism in 2020. She is a 2020 National Geographic Explorer.
