What is the Stand Up for CASA Challenge?

This peer-to-peer social media challenge to inspire philanthropy, unite our community, raise vital funds for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Monterey County, and promote local businesses. Community members and businesses are challenged to make a public donation of unique experiences, goods, or services. These donated items will be auctioned and 100% of the proceeds will benefit CASA of Monterey County.

FAQ for Challengers:

Who donates auction items? What can I/we donate?

Anyone can donate. Business owners, artists, musicians, and social clubs or groups are encouraged to get creative and provide donated unique experiences and items. As a challenger who donates, you will both promote your brand/product/services while also supporting foster youth in Monterey County.

Who benefits from participating in 'The Challenge'?

All proceeds from this event will benefit CASA of Monterey County, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to train and support community volunteers to advocate for children who have been placed in foster care due to abuse and neglect, upholding their rights and securing a safe, permanent home.

The donating challengers also benefit by promoting their business, product, or service.

How do you participate a donor?

Whether you are "challenged" by someone else (and accept the "challenge"), or you decide to join the fun on your own, all you need to do is grab your phone and record a public statement to join the challenge and support CASA. In your video, you will introduce your unique donated item and "challenge" someone else.

Then, post and share your video on your Instagram or Facebook page and tag @CASAofMontereyCounty. Don't forget to tag the person you are challenging and continue the #standupforCASA challenge

Do I have to post a video publicly?

Though we would love your public support, you do not have to post your video publicly. If you prefer a more private declaration, send us a message! If you would still like to donate an item without posting a video, that works for us! Or, you can create a written declaration of support.

Submit your donation on the event page by clicking "Donate at Item Now" or email events@casaofmonterey.org

Do I have to donate an item to participate?

Of course not! Every little bit helps and if you choose to donate monetarily, please know that there is no act of generosity that is too small to make a big a difference.

Will I receive a tax-deduction?

Yes, all donations to CASA of Monterey County are tax deductible. If you donate an item, you will receive a tax receipt. The fair market value of an in-kind donation is determined by the donor.

Auction winners will receive the deduction amount above the item's market value. For example, if you pay $500 for an item with a market value of $300, then $200 is eligible for tax deduction.

Additionally, with the new CARES act (part of the recent stimulus package), allows contributions to charitable organizations of up to $300 to be deducted. Receipts and itemization are not required.
