Guest Speaker: Duke Austin

Earl "Duke" Austin Jr. is a graduate from Sam Houston State University '1992. He earned his bachelor's degree in business management, and was the chapter's Consul in 1991-1992. His time at SHSU was filled with fraternity activities while he played linebacker for the team at SHSU while he juggled his academics.

After graduation, Duke followed in his father's footsteps as fourth-generation in the utility construction field a family business at North Houston Pole Line (NHPL), which Quanta Services acquired in 2001. NHPL saw significant growth under Duke's 17 years of leadership, serving as president of the company.

Duke has been highly involved with SHSU since graduation creating specific programs aimed at enhancing several engineering technology degrees with hands-on experience through Quanta Services. Because of this, Duke received the SHSU Distinguished Alumni award in 2016. He also serves as a member of the SHSU Alumni Board of Directors.

Over the years, Duke has remained close to his fraternity brothers from the Epsilon Psi Chapter. In 2019 Duke was named Significant Sig for his various accomplishments. He is the proud husband to his college sweetheart, Sanette and father to 3 sons and 1 daughter.  They stood together through Duke's battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and have now been cancer free for 10 years.  His daughter, Carsyn, is beginning her freshman year of high school. His 3 sons followed Duke's legacy and each Sigma Chi's at Texas, and his twins, Cade, at Texas Christian University, and Cross at Duke's alma mater, SHSU.
