Myths of Creation - CE190205.1201
Acrylic, powder pigment, resin, plaster, mixed media, 2019, 48 x 48 x 2.5 inches.
"Each work in the Myths of Creation series is a record of a unique event, an instant of time, forever frozen. The series is inspired by images from NASA's Hubble Telescope of cosmic events like supernovae: what we see are records of ancient events that occurred eons ago but still have impact and immediacy. I wanted to capture that feeling: each work is made by exploding various materials onto a prepared board. The resulting explosion becomes the work-each piece is a record of the very instant of its creation. The titles reflect this as they bare the date and time of the event. The works are fixed in cast resin, which adds a stunning visual dimension, and enhances the sense of these works as frozen moments of time, records of specific, cataclysmic events."

Concealed Carry XV Baby
Conceptual Relief Sculpture: Baby blanket, toy plastic guns, hand embroidery. Includes wall mount. 2018. 27" x 39" x 2". Description: In relief sculptures and sculptural site-installations, hand-sewing secures plastic weapons within baby blankets, a conceptual adaptation of 'trapunto' quilting- toy guns in place of cotton batting. Each work begins with collecting/selecting unique recycled baby blankets. The arrangements of plastic weapon/s within is inspired by observing children's play. "ConcealedCarryLand" proposes to be as quintessentially American as Disneyland, and is intended to prompt dialogue and debate on gun culture: what matters more, our guns or our kids? Why does the U.S. have 120.5 guns per 100 persons, more than any other nation? What is the impact of lockdowns on children's psychological well-being? Should civilians have access to semi-automatic guns?

Canvas Print with Glow in the Dark Paint, 2018, 24"H x 36"W x 1.5"D.
In "Extreme White" (2018), a white gun is photographed on a white background, leaving little distinction between where the gun stops and where the white background begins. The gun has been painted with glow-in-the-dark paint, in darkness the white background turns black and the gun becomes electric green. When this work is installed in an exhibition, it is labeled so that the materials used are available for the viewers to recognize. However, viewers are unable to experience the work in darkness, because the effect of the glow-in-the-dark paint is blocked by the lights in the gallery. The intention of this work is to offer the viewer the opportunity to scrutinize white privilege. "Extreme White" (2018) is a piece that might look obvious and simply at first glance, but it is also a piece in which the viewers are blocked the opportunity to appreciate all the characteristics it offers. By not allowing viewers to see how the work transforms but letting them know that I does, I give them a disadvantage, and trigger the audience to think about how white privilege feels like.
