Notecards & "MiniMargaret" Oil
$125Landscapes have long been the predominant subject of Door County painters, but Margaret Lockwood was probably among the first to do abstract landscape paintings in Door County, and has encouraged others, particularly women painters, to be bold in their approach to art - to think outside the lighthouse.
"I thought that was so interesting because how many years later, just look. I mean, we have this wonderful great art community. It was good then, but now it's really good. It's a really good place to buy art and it really good place to be an artist."
Recently, she has been working on a sketch book from a Miller Art Museum pandemic project, The Sketchbook Challenge, which handed out small blank books for artists to fill with anything they want - words, pictures, graphics - and then turn them in when they filled the volume. The results may become an exhibit when the pandemic subsides.

"USS McMullen" Marc Anderson
$400"USS McMullen" - This 10"x20"original oil on board was inspired by a scene on a small lake near Warrens, WI.
"The thing that drew me to this subject, other than my love for Wisconsin lakes, was the warm reflected light in the shadow on the boat. Capturing that set up the rest of the lighting, which for me is what it's all about." - Marc Anderson
Marc Anderson was born and raised in central Wisconsin in the Rockwellian town of Wild Rose. He has three brothers and much to his mother's chagrin, no sisters. She wanted the Von Trapp Family, but what she got was closer to a cheesy barbershop quartet with excessive body odor. Nevertheless Marc's parents were abundantly supportive of his and his brothers' endeavors, creative or otherwise.
After graduating second in his class from Wild Rose High School, Marc packed up his brushes and moved to Menomonie, WI to study industrial design at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. After two years in the design department, Marc switched majors to focus on illustration. Working largely in pen & ink and watercolor, he found an interest in political, satirical illustration and editorial cartooning. Marc continued on this career path for several years until, almost by accident, he discovered the mysterious world of plein air painting. While Marc loved the comfort and convenience of his studio along with the abundance of distracting Youtube videos that could be found there, nothing could compete with this newfound passion. Unsavory politicians were quickly replaced with painterly depictions of the Wisconsin Landscape, as well they should be. Notwithstanding, the Wisconsin winters would once again drive Marc back into the studio, where he would hibernate for several months, only emerging for rations of cheese and lutefisk.
Marc has continued to broaden his scope of painting techniques and subject matter. He currently resides in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin where he has been participating in the local art scene while keeping active with art shows regionally and nationally.

Art Glass Vase
$136David studied art and graphic design as an undergraduate at Yale University, and glass at San Francisco State University, Pilchuck Glass School, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and Public Glass in San Francisco. In 2012 he won the award for Best Hot Glass at Public Glass's Artist and Artisans Benefit Auction Gala.
This piece uses extra material in the base to raise the circular volume up into the air that fills it, while the hole in its center emphasizes its shape and helps anchor it in space.
"I used spots of an opaque, reducing frit* on the outside with aventurine old gold below the surface to create a combination that sparkles in bright light and communicates a simple statement of form in shadow."
David's vase stands 9 7/8" tall and is 8" at its widest point.
David Ensign's Portfolio - Glass
* Frit is crushed glass often melted onto other glass to produce patterns and color
David Ensign is Door Shakespeare's Graphic Designer and the brother of Managing Director, Amy Ensign.

Art Deco Vase
$125This simple art deco style vase, featuring a unique glaze, is functional and dishwasher safe.
Artist Sharon Scrattish has been a potter with the Madison Potters Guild for a number of years.
All of her work is fired in gas kilns at 2300 degrees, creating the richness and matte tones you see here.
Scrattish became fascinated with glazes, how they flow in the kiln, and how this movement can be controlled for the desired aesthetic effect. Because the focus is on the glaze effects, she tends to keep her shapes simple. She makes functional objects because she believes it's great for artwork to be used as well.
