Bill Sarni | Nantucket Rocker Decoy
Folk artist Bill Sarni is well known for his outstanding decoy carvings. Each bird is captured in meticulous detail. Bill hails from Hingham, Massachusetts, a town that is home to a dynasty of decoy carvers. These local legends, as well as the songbirds, ducks, and shorebirds near Bill's home on the Weir River Estuary, inspire Bill's work. Bill has been honored by Early American Life magazine. This carving depicts a black bellied plover, also referred to as a "Nantucket Rocker." A decoy carver at the height of Nantucket's shorebird hunting gave these birds this nickname in reference to their movement which reminded him of a rocking horse and rocking chair. Pay homage to a little known moment in Nantucket history with Sarni's decoy!

Painted wooden decoy, 13" x 11.5"
