Wow what a beauty! This Redspire Ornamental Pear tree would add a splash of color to anyone's yard. Redspire pears are fast-growing with narrow crowns. They offer large, white blossoms in spring, pretty purple new leaves and flaming fall color.

You'll find that the fruits are small pomes, about the size of peas, and reddish-brown in color. This fruit hangs on the tree into winter, serving as food for birds and other wildlife. This exceptional Mare & Foal wood sculpture is carved from one piece of Indonesian "Rain Tree" or "Mahoni" wood, similar to Mahogany. With lovely rich color, it has long been a favorite of the carvers in Bali.

The carver's name on this piece is Redu and he comes from a family, and village, of fine wood carvers. The skill is passed down from generation to generation, the carving usually done in a family group, rather than as a solitary activity. Carvers typically specialize in a theme or animal. They carve totally "free form," starting with a block of wood, carving from imagination or memory.
