The Beauty of Imperfection
24" x 36" Oil on canvas
The piece that I worked on this year was meant to represent the struggles of never being perfect enough, something that always lingered in my mind throughout middle school. The reason that the figure in the painting has such a petite stomach is due to the fact that my appearance was never good enough to my eyes, no matter how hard I tried to wish my thoughts away, I struggled with heightened anxiety and could never just shake off my insecurities. The painting acts as a closing statement to all the feelings I struggled with and could never get out to tell anyone, it creates a state of reassurance for the times it was hard to even tell myself I was going to be okay. After all my ups and downs, I had to remember there was a time when everything was okay and it wasn't completely hopeless. After all my years of middle school I wanted to create something to show that I have learned to embrace all my flaws, and see what's beautiful about them.
