MOJITO

INGREDIENTS:                                   

·        Ice                                              

·        5 to 6 fresh mint leaves                                     

·        2 ounces light rum (vodka or other liquor can also be used, depending on your preference)              

·        1 ounce simple syrup

(store bought or made at home by heating 1 part sugar &1 part water, until dissolved)

·        1 ounce lime juice

·        Club soda

 

PREPARATION:

 

Without a cocktail shaker:  "Clap" the mint to release the oils and add to the glass with simple syrup and lime juice.  Mash with a muddler or wooden spoon to release flavors without creating a paste.  Pour in the rum, stir & add ice. Top off with a splash of club soda & a mint leaf garnish.

 

Using a cocktail shaker:  Fill the shaker with ice & add the mint.  Pour in the rum, simple syrup, and lime juice. You can mash with a muddler or wooden spoon at this time, if desired.  Cover and shake vigorously. Strain into a glass.  Top off with a splash of club soda & a mint leaf garnish.

 

 

MANGO MOJITO VARIATION

 

Make mango puree by blending 1 ripe mango, peeled and cut into chunks with 6 ounces canned or bottled mango juice.  (If you don't have a ripe mango, you can just use the canned or bottled mango juice)

 

Add 2 tablespoons of the mango purée when adding the lime juice & simple syrup.  Continue with the remaining steps & garnish with a slice of unpeeled mango.  

 

 

STRAWBERRY MOJITO VARIATION

Muddle 2 strawberries, cut into quarters together with the mint.  Continue with the remaining steps & garnish with a strawberry slice.
