Event Description

Join Freedoms Foundation on September 12, 2020 to celebrate three worthy recipients of this year's Distinguished Citizen Award. Each has demonstrated a reverence for this nation and its founding principles and has striven to preserve and pass on those ideals through their inspiring body of work. All proceeds from An Evening with Freedoms Foundation support our educational programs for teachers and students.

Our Distinguished Citizen Award Recipients

Dr. Larry P. Arnn is the president of Hillsdale College, where he is also a professor of politics and history. Under his leadership, Hillsdale has, among other initiatives, developed free online courses on the Constitution that are available to all Americans eager to learn more about their heritage. Dr. Arnn's publications include Liberty and Learning: The Evolution of American Education and Churchill's Trial: Winston Churchill and the Salvation of Free Government.

Dr. Rogers Smith is the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania and is the immediate past president of the American Political Science Association. His dedication to the Constitution and citizenship fostered interdisciplinary scholarship through what is now Penn's Andrea Mitchell Center for the Study of Democracy. His publications include Still a House Divided: Race and Politics in Obama's America.

The Philly POPS, led by President and CEO Frank Giordano, is the largest standalone pops orchestra in the United States. Founded in 1979, The Philly POPS delights audiences with inspired performances of American popular music and celebrates this distinctive musical heritage through free concerts on civic holidays and by bringing music education into Philadelphia schools.

An Evening with Freedoms Foundation begins at 6:30 PM with a cocktail reception followed by food, fun and festivities combining both live and virtual events. A silent, online auction will offer additional opportunities to support Freedoms Foundation's education programs for students and teachers which cultivate constitutional knowledge, civic responsibility, and an appreciation of the sacrifices made for freedom.

Who We Are.

Founded in 1949, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge motivates and educates people of all ages and political background on our 75-acre campus in the heart of historic Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. We inspire adults and instill in students the need to understand their rights, embrace their responsibilities, and promote the spirit and philosophy of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. And we're here to recognize and celebrate anyone who elevates this important work, like our 2020 Distinguished Citizen Award recipients.
