Le Macchiole is known for its high-density, low-yield practices that have been described as "one bottle of wine per vine." Situated in Tuscany's hotbed of famous estates, Le Macchiole's modest 25 acres produce some of the most consistently outstanding wine in Bolgheri. The extraordinary quality-focused dedication of the Campolmi family has shown outstanding results. 97 Points: "Another striking wine, the 2010 Scrio (Syrah) is off the charts. Mocha, spices, chocolate, black cherries and flowers all wrap around the palate. Varietal aromas and flavors lie behind the wine's superb textural richness and depth. Once fermented in barrel, Scrio is now vinified in stainless steel, which seems to allow the aromatics to truly soar. Over the last few months, the 2010 has developed beautifully. Delas Chateauneuf-du-Pape Haute Pierre 2012

The color is a deep garnet red. The nose of the "Haute Pierre" has strong spicy aromas that reveal a rich, powerful body that is delicate, yet has a tightly knit tannic framework. On the palate, the wine is rich and unctuous, revealing intense licorice-like flavors. It can easily be kept 10 years or more. This wine is very smooth with balanced tannins. Wine Spectator rated it 92 points.

Fontanella Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

This is a real tour-de-force of Jeff's flagship wine: fruit and barrel notes exist in perfect harmony, pairing black cherry and roses, plum spice cake and fresh vanilla, brown sugar and blackberry, gingerbread and leather. The 2017 Cab has rich-yet-sweet balanced oak notes, a subtle spice, and a velvet mouthfeel. This wine is delicious now and will peak within 5-7 years.

This Bordeaux blend from the Sonoma Coast consists of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon with 29% Malbec, 10% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot. It offers impressive tension of smoky black fruit, dark chocolate and leather with rounded edges of richness and sizable tannin. Robert Parker rated it 94 points, and Wine Enthusiast gave it 90. It will drink well over the next 20 years.

A solid and stoic young red. Made from organic grapes.

Freemark Abbey 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon

Dark ruby in color, the flavors such as blackberry, boysenberry and Bing cherry dominate with nuances of milk chocolate, chocolate berry truffle dusted with cocoa powder, aromatic cedar and Herbs de Provence. The sweet oak spice is very well integrated, adding to the overall complexity. The body is very full, with a soft entry, coupled with dark cherry flavors that develop from start to finish. With great texture, integrated tannins, and pleasant mouth feel, this Cabernet is full-bodied, rich and opulent. In one word?. delicious. Robert Parker gave this wine 92 points.

This wine from the Loire Valley is hard to find in the U.S.! The 2013 Domaine de L'ecu Carpe Diem is an excellent Muscadet white, aged for 15 months in amphora before being aged for a year in the bottle. There is no fining, no filtering and no added sulphur. When tasting, it offers up aromas of citrus fruits and notes of aniseed, spices and bay leaves.

Patz & Hall Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2016

Aromas of spicy, dried cherries, five-spice powder, cocoa and cranberry weave amongst fresh strawberries and kirsch liquor. Though nicely dense and full on the palate, the overt richness avoids heaviness with fresh acidity and bright berry fruit flavors that resolve on a long and detailed finish. Wine Spectator has rated it 90 points.

JM Cellars Magnum 2016 Louisa Margaret's Vineyard
This wine was named in honor of John's mother Louise (his Dad's nickname for her was Louisa). She was John's biggest fan. When she passed away six years ago, it was decided to make this wine in her honor each year. JM's 2016 vintage of Louisa is a blend of 92% merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc made exclusively with Margaret's Vineyard fruit. This wine shows big rich cherry flavors with soft tannins and a lengthy finish. Only 279 cases produced (750 ml bottles). Limited quantities available after release.

2009 Barolo Lazzarito is deep garnet red in color. Richly rounded with a robust and velvety texture; intensely aromatic with hints of figs and plums. It is elegant with soft and sweet tannins, followed by a long finish.

The 2009 Barolo Lazzarito delivers subdued notes of red rose and violet that build in intensity as the wine takes on more air in the glass. Black fruit, plum, cassis, leather, tar and licorice soon follow suit. This wine is an absolute, drop-dead stunner. Its tannic crispness makes it feel lively and buoyant in the mouth. The opaque purple-hued 2008 IX Proprietary Red, a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and the balance Petit Verdot (also slightly modified from last year), reveals notes of espresso roast, blueberries, black currants and lead pencil shavings.
