Take home beautiful and thoughtfully crafted jewelry with a purpose! Support women empowerment initiatives in Uganda with this beautifully handmade and fair trade 5-strand necklace. The deep, gorgeous cranberry red color beaded necklace comes with a matching pair of red hoop earrings. Each strand has small paper beads all in the same color and with small gold/bronze tone seed beads and push clasp in the back. The length of the necklace is about 12 inches. The diameter of the hoop in the earrings is 1 1/2 inch. These are handmade by Maggie and her talented team in the slums of Kampala, Uganda. This start-up social enterprise was designed to empower the hard-working and talented women artisans who live in the slums of Kampala, Uganda. Created by a local Georgia State University Professor and her partner, who founded a community based organization in Uganda, their vision is that sales will result in sustainable income for these women in the long term, which will provide them with independence to support their families and send their children to school. Using recycled paper and scraps from magazines and print shops, they carefully cut long strips of paper and roll them tightly to make beads. These are then varnished for durability and strung to make gorgeous necklaces.
