HPGM reached out to student member Olivia Menzia to create this year's Virtual Gala artwork.

Olivia is a graphic and creative designer in the Milwaukee area. Olivia says, "As a recent graduate of Marquette University and the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, I inform my design through experiences out and about in the city. My work always has reflected my personality with lots of colors, textures and hand illustrations. When I am not designing there is a good chance I am making ice cream for my company Liv a Little Vegan Ice Cream! I love Milwaukee, and I love creating for amazing organizations like HPGM!"

Description:
Colored pencil on wood has become a trend among those who desire a more rustic look. But for me, the artist, I desire a more rough look but making it seem as if it is painted. In this piece, I combined both Chinese culture and Day of the Dead culture into one piece. Utilizing old fashion royal makeup with the intense blackness of a sugar skull. I created a beautiful demonic elegant skull. Using Colored Pencil, Acrylic paint , and Ink I worked to bring out the roughness and texture of the treated wood using it as a base of skin color.
