Artist Jackie Jones

Date: 2019

Medium: scratch art

Dimensions: 12" x 10" (framed)

Jackie Jones (Member of ISSA: International Society of Scratch Art) discovered scratch art on the internet. She found master of scratch art Ginger Gehres on Facebook, and once she attended an afternoon class with Gehres, she was hooked.

Scratch art is a form of direct engraving where the artist scratches black ink with an X-Acto Knife to reveal the white clay beneath. Color may be applied with Ampersand links (more often) or other means, such as watercolor pencils. The average time to complete one art piece is about 30 to 40 hours for small pieces, but since it is so detailed, an artist cannot work more than 2 hours at a time to avoid eye strain. It is a very slow process, with magnification eye wear.

Jackie's goal is to advance further in the art world since retirement in May of 2019. She attended the ISSA meeting in Kentucky in 2019 and plans to attend the ISSA meeting in Arizona in 2020 to continue to learn more about the art of Scratch Board.
