Walter Hagen, five time PGA Champion, was the club's first head professional. The South Course has played host to 17 Major Championships including: six U.S. Opens; two U.S. Senior Opens; U.S. Women's Amateur; two U.S. Men's Amateurs; Western Open; the Carling World Open; the 35th Ryder Cup in 2004; and three PGA Championships--including the 90th PGA Championship in 2008. Baltusrol Lower course is undergoing a massive restoration project by Gil Hanse. Course is set to open in April-May 2021. Expectations are that this redo will be one of the finest ever!

What to Expect: Baltusrol is a historic club with a rich history of hosting national championships. The Lower course has had famous matchups that include George Von Elm defeating Bobby Jones in the 1926 U.S. Amateur, Jack Nicklaus' 1967 and 1980 U.S. Open victories, and Phil Mickelson's win at Baltusrol first effort to host the PGA Championship. The historic grounds feature one of golf's finest clubhouses on a beautiful tree lined property. When you play Baltusrol you know exactly why the course has hosted so many national championships. Even the golf course reflects the grand Newport Beach heritage with its bold stand of pine trees, impeccably manicured greens and fairways, and picture-postcard views of the sparkling blue Pacific and the Newport Bay. This 6,600 yard, par 71, private course, originally built in 1954 by world renowned William "Billy" Bell, is now in the capable hands of distinguished golf course architect, Ted Robinson, the man responsible for some of the world's finest courses. The original design, known for its challenging water hazards and mature trees, is further redefined by Robinson's enhancements. Newport Beach Country Club is located along Pacific Coast Highway in scenic Newport Beach. The maturity of the nearly 70-year old course makes it a popular stop of the Senior PGA tour. The narrow kikuya fairways are lined with bold stands of aged pine trees, which puts a premium on driving the ball accurately off the tee. The challenging bent and poa annua grass greens create a small target for approach shots and putts often break deceptively toward the Pacific Ocean. Originally designed by William Bell in 1954, Newport Beach Country Club underwent enhancements by Harry Rainville in 1973 and Ted Robinson in 1985, 1998 and 1999. Robinson's refinements on holes #3, #4 and #5 were completed for the 1999 Hoag Senior Classic, and in 2000, we rebuilt the tee boxes on holes #3 and #6, added a fairway bunker on hole #6, renovated the driving range tees and redesigned the green side bunker on hole #17.

A.W. Tillinghast (1918)/Gil Hanse (2011)

Quaker Ridge returned to America's 100 Greatest in 2013 thanks to a revision by Gil Hanse that included removal of many trees and the rebuilding of bunkers. Hanse also expanded several greens back to Tillinghast dimensions but reduced the size of the par-4 17th green, chopping off a left-hand lobe added by Frank Duane in 1964. Quaker's strong suit has long been its powerful par 4s and Hanse strengthened them all, including the par-4 sixth, squeezed between a creek and hillside, and the drive-and-pitch 11th, where the green is girdled by a stream.

Golf for 4 at Prairie Dunes a Top 100 course in Hutchison, Kansas

27. PRAIRIE DUNES COUNTRY CLUB (Golf Digest) Prairie Dunes was the top nine-hole course in America for 20 years. By the time the club found funds to expand it to 18, original architect Perry Maxwell had passed away, but his son Press was able to add nine more holes seamlessly, putting three on the front nine and six on the back. He also replicated his father's great greens, which seem to break in three different directions. Prairie Dunes reflects all that is common in rural Kansas: sand dunes, prairie grasses, yucca plants, cottonwoods and constant wind.

The Virginia Country Club is a historical and wonderful member's course. A.W. Tillinghast and William P. Bell were primarily responsible for conceiving the current layout during the "Golden Age of Design" in America. By today's standard, it is not a long golf course. However, it is a great shotmaker's track with small greens and interesting terrain that creates nice variety throughout and gives the player the thrill of natural contours playing up, down and across the various elevation changes.

The late John Harbottle III was the last to restore the golf course and while he kept the pursuit to maintain the Club's classic design, Harbottle made efforts to provide the modern player with an aspiring test of golf.
