A beautiful moment of Swans on a frozen lake taken by Thomas D. Mangelsen, framed in natural wood and preserved behind AR glass

A family of trumpeter swans makes themselves at home on the edge of a pond near the Snake River. With their nearly full-grown cygnets still in tow, the parent birds guide their young to optimal water sources where they can feed, roost and keep an eye out for potential threats. This clearing proves an ideal location: the aspens and spruce form a windbreak to the west, and all around, the landscape is open, with just enough cattails to camouflage the birds' activity. As established lifetime mates, the parents will likely return to this refuge with subsequent cygnets. Their young may even do the same.
