Choose between a private Gyrotonic or Pilates session with Mary O'Malley at her studio in Studio City.

The Gyrotonic method is an exercise modality, developed by Julio Horvath, which has roots in yoga, tai chi, gymnastics and dance. Gyrotonic sequences simultaneously stretch and strengthen muscles and tendons while also articulating and mobilizing the joints.

A favorite of ballet dancers and elite athletes looking for balance, efficiency, strength and flexibility, Gyrotonic is composed of spiraling, circular movements paired with corresponding breath patterns. The exercises flow together seamlessly, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. This allows for truly functional movement that translates into better movement in real life. Performed on specially designed equipment that increases the functional capacity of the spine and strengthens the entire body, results from the Gyrotonic method include increased coordination, endurance, aerobic activity and neuromuscular connection.

Pilates is a system of movement developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 20th century that emphasizes using the "core" (the abdomen, back and pelvic girdle region) to perform flexibility, muscular strength and endurance movements in a low-impact manner.

Consisting of a series of almost 500 precisely designed movements performed on a mat or specially designed equipment, Pilates is functional, working several muscle groups simultaneously through smooth, continuous motion. A holistic discipline that integrates the relationship between body and mind, it is a balanced blend of strength and flexibility training that improves posture, reduces stress and creates long, lean muscles without bulking up. The focus is on quality of movement rather than quantity, which makes one feel invigorated rather than exhausted after a session.
