The beautiful sculpture, Daphne Garden, at Northerly Island Park is captured in the artistic photograph taken by an ICSJ parent.

Greek mythology served as the inspiration for Daphne Garden. In an ancient myth, the nymph Daphne was pursued by Apollo, the archer god.

To protect her from Apollo's advances, Daphne's father turned her into a laurel tree. By highlighting Daphne, the artist, Dessa Kirk, wanted to explore the theme of exploitation of women. The three figurative Daphne Garden sculptures are made of welded automobile parts. Kirk's decision to use dismantled car parts is based on her interpretation of older Cadillacs as a symbol of materialism and self destruction. The wing like arms of the figure emulate leaves, with vines serving as skirts of the three women. These natural elements reinforce the imagery of the mythological Daphne transforming into a tree.

Add a subtle nod to Chicago in your home with this lovely image of one of Chicago's most delicate, whimsical sculptures.

THE 8TH GRADE

KEEPSAKE BOOK

MAKES A

GREAT GRADUATION GIFT!

For the second year, the 8th grade graduating class of ICSJ created a Keepsake Book. Each student in the 8th grade Class of 2020 wrote "A Letter to My Future Self" and created or chose an image that depicts where each student will be in the future. As your 8th grader's time at ICSJ comes to a close, they can always remember their fellow classmates with the 8th Grade Keepsake Book.

Cryotherapy is not a medical procedure, but a non-invasive alternative for individuals seeking a faster recovery and improved health.

CRYO TONING FACIAL - Go under the ICE, not the knife!
