You are bidding on an original painting by Karen I. Coates.
Moonstruck, 60" x 48" on canvas, mixed media.
Karen was born in Costa Rica at the age of 6, her family immigrated to Miami, Florida. Her love for the arts started at a very young age. She always felt a sense of self belonging and identity through art. She loves to evoke emotions and feelings in others through art.
Karen always volunteered for artistic projects at school. At the age of 12 she was recognized as a gifted artist by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D) and How Magazine, her pieces were published by both organizations. This achievement got her a placement in a magnet school for gifted artist in middle school and high school. She was accepted into the number five high school in the country at the time, Design & Architecture Senior High (D.A.S.H) for gifted artist in Miami.
Since graduating from D.A.S.H, Karen has supported herself solely on her love for art. She began painting children's themed rooms and murals for a living in 2000. Through out the 2000's Karen took several faux finishing classes to advance her abilities which resulted in her working for one of the top faux finishing companies in Las Vegas. Within a year of working for the company, Karen had been promoted to trainer and field supervisor. In 2007 Karen established and currently maintains a successful custom wall finishing company.
Karen has been focusing on her art in canvas and acrylic sheets. StrataLife which is what she calls her art, is a representation of those complex layers in colors and textures. People are complex and life is complicated filled with peaks and valleys. People accumulate vast layers of experiences of which others observe only a glimpse. StrataLife's goal is to evoke thought and emotions from the observer; to find the commonality of the human condition, each piece is a mirror into your own experience..
