Mr. and Mrs. Brayfield have owned their city home for 28 years. Mr. Brayfield has worked decades as a machinist for Klöckner Pentaplast, while his wife was a nurse at UVA during that time until she suffered a stroke that has left her disabled and unable to work. The couple struggles to make ends meet, and it is especially difficult maneuvering Mrs. Brayfield's wheelchair in and out of their home that is 12 steps below the street. While many funding sources will be needed to address more expensive retrofits and many deferred maintenance projects, the most immediate need is to install a handicap commode and vanity in their bathroom. AHIP is grateful to our supporters who will help ensure the long-term safety and stability of this family's home.

Mrs. Brooks is now retired from working as a nanny. She shares her 1970s Rose Hill bungalow with her daughter, who works in accounting for a senior care business while studying business administration at PVCC, and granddaughter. AHIP recently completed an emergency repair which took care of new decking and railings, plumbing repairs, vinyl floor in the bathroom, and storm doors, but the flooring in the kitchen, hallway, and master bedroom have deteriorated beyond their useful life and also need to be replaced. We hope several generous supporters will come together to cover the costs for this important job to keep this multigenerational family safe at home.
- Laminate floor in three rooms
Funds needed for this project: $5,856
Ms. Harris-Butler's home in Keswick originally belonged to her grandmother. She worked 27 years driving a truck for her family's sanitation disposal business, but had to retire when she was diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago. She has two sons who live in the area with their families and a daughter who lives in Richmond-she enjoys time with her seven grandchildren, watching three of them during the summer. When we met Ms. Harris-Butler, she had been without hot water for two years and has been heating water on her stove to bathe. AHIP is in the process of installing a new unit courtesy of a donation from AO Smith Foundation that was made possible by our local NOLAND dealer. Built in 1954, the home needs further repairs and updates, with the immediate need being to add electrical outlets to prevent a possible fire. Can you be the difference to Ms. Harris-Butler's safety and security?
- Electrical receptacles in three rooms

Mrs. Dolan and her husband purchased their mobile home in North Garden just eight years after it was manufactured. Her husband was a carpenter until he passed away in 2010, and Mrs. Dolan now is retired after working in retail at Rite Aid and as a private caregiver. The kitchen has become unusable due to a plumbing leak that has gone unattended for so long that the base cabinets are about to fall through the floor, and the commode in the master bathroom had to be shut off until the tank is repaired. She does not have the resources to make all the necessary fixes to stay living safely in her home. It's the largest AHIP family project this year, and we would love as many contributors as possible to join together in making sure that Mrs. Dolan has a home repair happy ending.
- Kitchen cabinets, countertop, sink, and plumbing
- New range and refrigerator
- Subfloor repair and laminate floor in two rooms
- New commode
Funds needed for this project: $14,803
Mr. and Mrs. Gray's house in Esmont sits on the corner, with their son living across the road and his daughter living in the house behind them. Mr. Gray worked for nearly four decades at Uniroyal in Scottsville making fabric for tires, while Mrs. Gray worked as an administrative assistant for a doctor and then later as the head colorist for a company that colorized black and white photos, prints, and paintings. The couple has lived in their home since 1962, and now they are both in their 80s and struggling with health issues. Mr. Gray walks with a cane, but he can no longer navigate the home's front or back steps. AHIP will build a safety ramp with help from generous supporters like you.

Originally from Warrenton, Mr. Gray has owned his Scottsville home since 1990. He is a veteran who worked several years as a driver and butler for John Kluge and in 2017 underwent surgery for cancer. The roof on his home needs to be replaced in order for this senior to remain living safe at home. Many AHIP supporters can be the difference to keep Mr. Gray safe and secure for many years to come.

Funds needed for this project: $7,750
Ms. Morris has lived in her grandmother's mobile home in Charlottesville on and off for 15 years, inheriting it a few years ago. She now shares the home with her adult son, who works at Subway, and a partner, who is disabled. Ms. Morris suffers from several health conditions and hasn't been able to work since her last job as a cashier for Kmart. AHIP plans to schedule a volunteer project to paint the roof, and additional fixes are needed to replace the commode and install a grab bar in the bathroom. When many supporters contribute collectively, we'll be able to keep this family safe at home.
- Paint metal roof
- Handicap bathroom retrofits
Funds needed for this project: $3,131
Mr. Rush is a single dad raising four daughters between the ages of 16 and 2 while working at Blue Ridge Building Supply. Built in 1971, his house is heir property, owned by his cousin and other family members. AHIP carried out an emergency repair this year to repair the baseboard heating and is currently working on subfloor repairs in the bathroom and utility room, but funding has not been secured to address the dangerous condition of the roof. AHIP seeks contributions from several supporters to keep this family safe and ensure this home stays affordable now and for the next generation.

Mrs. Whitlock, or Bebop, as her family calls her, is 96 and remains independent in her Ridge Street home. Her family was from Batesville, but she moved into the city to take a job as a childcare provider and then as a nursing home caretaker for seniors. She does her best to keep her home immaculate, but her limited resources have made it difficult to fix several plumbing issues, including getting access to the panel behind her tub. Your support in any amount will help AHIP complete this critical repair for a senior neighbor.

Ms. Woody inherited her parents' home in 2014, where she now raises her two young sons surrounded by relatives who own adjacent properties in her Esmont neighborhood. She works full time as an administrative assistant and medical office coordinator for a neurosurgeon at UVA, but needs help with many critical repairs. The HVAC unit was replaced as part of AHIP's partnership with Beck Cohen. Many funding partners, including Wells Fargo, Community Housing Partners Weatherization Services, and donors to our Energy Retrofit Initiative, are making it possible to address projects as part of a rehab: windows, water heater, doors, chimney, roof, soffit, fascia, rear deck and steps, and plumbing and electrical. AHIP seeks help from many supporters to fill a critical funding gap for one remaining project.
