Yuyi Morales' book Dreamers (2018) is a tribute to the gifts immigrants bring with them. Morales draws inspiration from her own journey from Xalapa, Mexico to the United States in 1994 with her then-infant son, Kelly. The animals in her illustrations, like the monarch butterfly, are species that migrate between Mexico and America. Dreamers expresses Morales' love for public libraries, places that became second homes to her and her son.

Morales was awarded a Caldecott Honor for Viva Frida (2014). She won the Golden Kite Award for Picture Book Illustration in 2004, 2008, and 2014, and the Pura Belpré Illustrator Award in 2004, 2008, and 2009. The Pura Belpré Award is co-sponsored by REFORMA, this year's Carle Honors Angel. Morales's work was featured in The Carle's exhibitions Eric Carle and Friends: What's Your Favorite Color? (2017) and Collecting Inspiration: Contemporary Artists and their Heroes (2017).

All proceeds benefit The Carle's mission to instill a love of art and reading through picture books.

Artwork is framed by R. Michelson Galleries using archival materials.

Winners can take their artwork immediately after The Carle Honors. Absentee winners will receive their artwork via Federal Express; a flat shipping fee of $150 per artwork will apply.
