This is a two person 90 minute private session, meaning one instructor and workspace per party of two. This hot-glass learning experience will start by going over safety, tools, and equipment. Artist Bio: Considered one of the leading representational figurative artists of his generation. Artist Bio:

Dr. Fahamu Pecou is an interdisciplinary artist and scholar whose works combine observations on hip-hop, fine art and popular culture. Pecou's paintings, performance art, and academic work addresses concerns around contemporary representations of Black masculinity and how these images impact both the reading and performance of Black masculinity.

Fahamu received his BFA at the Atlanta College of Art in 1997 and an PhD from Emory University in 2018. Pecou maintains an active exhibition schedule as well as public lectures and speaking engagements at colleges and museums nationwide.

In 2017 Pecou was the subject of a retrospective exhibition "Miroirs de l'Homme" in Paris, France. He is a recipient of the 2016 Joan Mitchell Foundation "Painters and Sculptors" Award. His work is featured in noted private and public national and international collections including; Smithsonian National Museum of African American Art and Culture, Societe Generale (Paris), Nasher Museum at Duke University, The High Museum of Art, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Seattle Art Museum, Paul R. Artist: Tony Hernandez

Artist Bio:

Tony Hernandez was born in Atlanta in 1964 and has been painting professionally since 1988. While he is a Southern artist, his works are far from the region. His subject matter delves into the lives of children of the Holocaust, as well as those who struggled through the Great Depression, especially in the ghettos of the Bronx where his grandparents lived. He is haunted by photographs of these children, often being consumed by the images until he puts pigment to canvas. Hernandez conveys the worlds that children create for themselves when they feel powerless by the fallacies of adults. With effervescence and symbolism, his paintings of preadolescent children wrestle with two themes: powerlessness and imagination. This tango creates a realm where the "mind of wonder" is tangible.

Hernandez has investigated these leitmotifs over the last several decades, working exclusively on handmade birch wood panels using the technically-demanding process of encaustic painting. While his works are simple visually, their psychological tone is complex. In these void landscapes, he portrays children unabridged, drawing on emotional gravity. With nothing to distract from the subject, the viewer is pulled into this land of childlike curiosity and fear. Even with evident melancholy throughout the body of work, such as the boy in the dunce hat, reaching for his shadow, there is hope within his shadowed, crowned self. Hernandez often uses doves to imply this sense of hope, as they represent a bridge from the despondent into the ethereal. With the painting of the doves sitting before a lounging girl, they seem guardian-like, protecting her from the trials that presumably surround her. In another painting, a girl adorns a deep red dunce cap while two doves perch on her forearms, depicting that thin divide between reality and imagination.

Through his adroit portrayal of historical calamities and symbolism, Hernandez has been contrasted with a litany of acclaimed artists, such as Christian Boltanski and Anselm Kiefer. Even so, Hernandez's dexterity draws from his own instinct, which he developed after attending the Art Institute of Atlanta as a high school student. After devoting himself to painting full-time in 1988, he distinguished his style further as he recognized that he paints for the primarily emotional connection. This disassociation from trends has allowed him to look inward before he looks outward, creating works that are overwhelming and frank. The art critic Jerry Cullum has said, "It's rare to find an artist whose work functions so totally on a level that gives the subjective sensation of intellectual satisfaction without providing anything like an obvious conceptual agenda. His approach to figuration delivers a definable psychological impact, and that he does this with rather more complexity than most painters."

Tony Hernandez exhibits internationally and his works are in numerous public collections throughout the U.S., notably the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and The Bronx Museum of the Arts. He recently relocated his Atlanta home and studio to Charlotte, NC.

Artist: Andrew Crawford

Artist Bio:

Andrew Crawford is a practicing sculptor who works in metal, wood, and found objects. His goal is to match organic form with mechanical objects and to explore the tension between the natural versus the man-made. Crawford was born in New Jersey, and moved with his family to the suburbs of Atlanta as a young boy. His parents, who set up a workshop for him in their home, encouraged his early artistic endeavors in clay, drawing, music, and sculpture. Andrew received his BFA in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1993. Crawford has received numerous public and private art commissions from institutions throughout the Southeast, including the Atlanta Botanical Gardens; Brenau University, Gainesville, Georgia; Holder Properties, Atlanta; Highlands Performing Arts Center, North Carolina; and Federal Reserve Bank, Atlanta. He has participated in solo and group shows at Bascome-Louise Gallery, Highlands, North Carolina; Quinlan Gallery, Gainesville, Georgia; Museum of Design Atlanta; Positive Space, New Orleans; and The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, among others. He recently had an outdoor sculpture show at MOCA GA, where one of his pieces is on extended loan. Crawford's studio, The Andrew T. Crawford Ironworks, is located on Bowen Street in Northwest Atlanta.

In my current body of paintings, the overarching theme of migration carries a multitude of connotations; most notably, migration speaks to the mystical movement through space and time, from one location to another and the ultimate return home. The recurring patterns of sandhill crane migrations remind us of nature's ability to renew and revive itself, rhythmically changing, yet remaining stable and consistent through the seasons. Such is also the human life, changing with each year and each generation. Like migratory birds, physical and spiritual travelers alike explore new or familiar places, always to return to the one special locale that they call "home." In their seasonal trips from North to South and then back, and in their victorious return from near extinction back into the cycle of life, sandhill cranes remind the viewer that all journeys have a purpose and an end, no matter how long they might be or how far away from home they may take us.

Artist Bio:

Ms. Tuttle has been a leader in the Atlanta art scene for over 30 years. She is not only a conceptual, interdisciplinary and multi-media artist, but serves as an arts administrator at the Fulton County Department of Arts and Culture. Tuttle has received recognition and awards for various public art projects, such as the 2012 Public Art Network Year-in-Review award which identified Tuttle's artwork as one of the top 50 public art projects in the country and two Southern Arts Federation/ NEA Regional Fellowships for Visual Artists in both sculpture and photography. Her works are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, the Federal Reserve Bank, and numerous private collections.

Jason Kofke understands a culture through images of what has been abandoned, discarded, or abrogated. He uses art as salvage ethnography to attribute meaning to events and artifacts of the past. Kofke is a recipient of a 2015 ELEVATE (Atlanta) Award, a 2011 Artadia Grant and a 2009 Idea Capital Grant. "CAN STRUCTURE CONVEY FLUIDITY AND MOVEMENT?"

These were the original questions behind SPOON's graphic experimentation that ultimately led to the development of her uniquely recognizable style. Removing content until the subject is unrecognizable, she slowly reintroduces data and color in search of the threshold where visual and mental perceptions are balanced.

What began as an idea she was testing for fun quickly turned into something distinctive that can now be seen at Fortune 500 Companies, sport stadiums, luxury hotels, museums and private residences around the world.

Every painting is composed and painted by hand, one dot at a time. In redacting a subject to the edge of recognition, she challenges viewers to recompose only the information that is absolutely necessary.

Distance, viewing angle, and even a camera lens changes the way SPOON's artwork resolves. As a result, everyone will experience it differently depending on their perspective, not just mentally, but physically. This moving target of data assemblage constantly challenges her to rethink each painting in a new way.

Her background in Urban Design and study of Architecture + Engineering have undoubtedly shaped the way SPOON approached art and what led to her initial concept. She also maintains a sense of environmental and social responsibility. By using the techniques she learned as a LEED Green Professional (buying locally sourced non-toxic materials) and donating a portion of the proceeds from every painting sale to charity, she tries to ensure that her success benefits the greater good.

Spoon has a unique style where the dots she paints create a visual and mental perception of her subject. Her works can be seen at Fortune 500 companies, sports stadiums, luxury hotels, museums, and private collections around the world, including a commission by the Atlanta Braves for SunTrust Stadium and commissions by Coca-Cola, IBM, JW Marriott, Bloomingdale's and the Hinson Art Museum in Charlotte, NC.

Jeff Campana is currently a Professor of Ceramics at Kennesaw State University near Atlanta, Georgia. Additionally, he has served as a full-time Technician at Bennington College in Vermont, and an instructor at the University of Louisville and Indiana University Southeast.

Previously known for his unique process of dissection and reassembly of leather hard forms, Jeff has moved away from his previous dissected/reassembled. His work has been featured in numerous magazines and online articles, and many exhibitions each year. Artist Bio:
Michael Zavison moved from interior and set design through a job at Marshal Field & Company in his home city of Chicago into fine art. His evolution as an artist has always been balanced against the need to problem solve and create lasting solutions for clients and collectors. He explains that the understanding he gained of balance, color and space while working in the aforementioned corporate field lead him to start manufacturing custom wall coverings (Zavison Frescoes) and then into fine art.
Taking inspiration from the older American cities where he has lived, he now works primarily in large-scale industrial abstractions. Using steel, paint and plaster, his pieces are atmospheric, moody and timeless; transforming spaces into unique personal sanctuaries.

Artist Bio:

Fine Art Photographer Jay Kaufman has had a multi-faceted career as a professional photographer, having worked in the field since the early 1960's as a photojournalist both in Europe and the U.S. shooting for United Press International; and, also as an advertising and editorial photographer. Digital graphics technology has allowed Kaufman to create a new approach for his photographic expression. His images have a reminiscent contemplative quality, even for the viewer who may have never experienced the time or place represented in his artwork. Kaufman works with and sells his images to interior designers, art galleries and as décor themes in fine restaurants.

Jay Kaufman also licenses his work through art publishing arrangements. He has developed a following of enthusiastic collectors. Kaufman's images are created as limited and open edition prints of varying sizes, that are printed on high quality archival art papers and on fine art canvas and as aluminum prints.

Kaufman describes his work as Photographic Idealism - a self-coined artistic point of view, based upon a concept of blending traditional photographic imagery with classical painting techniques that use the latest advanced artist's tools available from digital graphics technology. As an example, if a photographer and a painter happened upon the identical idyllic meadow, and each wished to capture the beauty of the scene; and express the essence that he or she perceived of the setting through their separate mediums, the painter would have the benefit of absolute control over the composition. The painter could arrange and place objects and subject matter anywhere within the composition; governed only by the limits of his or her imagination and technique.

The painter has, over centuries of artistic expression, always had freedom to convey light and shadow and hue and tone without the restraint of any restrictive law of physics. The painter is free to paint the meadow in any manner he or she wishes onto their canvas. Painters may precisely copy the reality of the scene set before them or alter the scene to suit their perception. A tree here, a pond there, flowers of any chosen shape or color could float in the air on the wisp of a breeze if that were the painter's conception to imply.

Photographers on the other hand, were, prior to the introduction of digital graphics technology, always dependent upon the reality set before them and were generally obligated to capture the image as it appears in reality; rather than as he or she would prefer it to be. One tree, out of place in a perfect meadow could flaw, even ruin an otherwise well balanced composition. For a fine art photographer, the freedom to remove extraneous objects; or to expand or enclose space where it had not previously existed and have the ability to create tone and nuance of color are contemporary freedoms offered by digital graphics to the artist-photographer. The computer and digital graphics software are wonderful tools for artistic expression and are the fine art photographer's unique brush and palette for this time and moment in the history of art.

The digital darkroom is where the fine art photographer can create and print ideal images and ideal compositions. Digital fine art photography has been going through an identity crisis though, being labeled everything from enhanced mixed-media to digital art to computer manipulated imagery. None of these terms accurately describe Kaufman's own understanding of what this innovative artistic point of view offers him. The term Photographic Idealism as Kaufman perceives it may or may not catch on, but this enlightened manner of conveying an image is here to stay.

Parish Kohanim has been intimately involved with professional photography for over 25 years. Parish, who is a renowned commercial photographer, is now devoting his efforts towards his first love, fine art photography. Parish's passion for the subtle beauty of life is apparent in his photographs. He has focused on many exquisite subjects, and is able to bring them out of the frame and into the live imagination of the viewer. After working in San Francisco and New York, he decided to open his professional photography studio in Atlanta. He has been very successful in his commercial endeavors for many years in Atlanta. Advertising agencies, design firms, and Fortune 500 companies have been his primary clients, some of which include IBM, AT&T, Coca-Cola, DeBeers Diamonds, Hanes, Fossil, and Kimberly Clark. His work has repeatedly appeared on pages of such publications as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Forbes, Time and Newsweek.

Artist Bio:

Carl Linstrum's professional experience spans a broad range, including his work
as an internationally exhibiting painter, through nearly twenty years as a gallery
owner and art consultant, and into his current position as a professor in the
School of Foundation Studies at SCAD Atlanta. He received his BA in
Printmaking from The University of South Florida in 1992 and his MFA in
Drawing and Painting from Georgia State University in 2002.
In his role as a professional artist, Carl has accumulated an extensive exhibition
record, participating in solo and group exhibitions regionally, nationally and
internationally in galleries, museums and universities. His drawings and
paintings have been collected into numerous private, corporate and public
collections throughout his career. As owner of Aliya Linstrum Gallery from 1992
until 2009, Mr. Linstrum represented a highly respected stable of artists working
in all media. He worked closely with these artists, securing commissions and
curating exhibitions with the intent of aggressively developing their careers as
professionals in their field. During these years, Carl also served on the board of
the Atlanta Gallery Association, whose goal was to promote the active visual arts
community in Atlanta and highlight the city's role as the cultural capital of the
South. Since joining SCAD Atlanta in 2009, he has taught a full range of drawing
and design courses in the School of Foundation Studies and the School of Fine
Arts.

Katherine Bell McClure, Artist Atlanta, Georgia USAA wife, mother and lifelong artist, I paint because it's what gets me out of bed in the morning. I wake up, form an idea, and go. Second only to my family, animals bring me the most joy; therefore, they tend to be the subject of most of my art. I am inspired by the menagerie of rescues I have at home and surround myself with images of many more. You will find our family dogs, ducks, chickens, rabbits and surrounding wildlife in my paintings as well as images of animals I find online and in books.To make my art, I reuse discarded materials-particularly old books and maps. Books become the canvas itself, or their pages get mixed into paintings; old maps are often the paper in works on paper. Each piece tends to start as abstract mixed media, then I add the image.Most of my art is 2-deminsional, painted in sizes big and small, with muted colors more often than not. Frequently, I finish the pieces with hand worked frames, acrylic panels or resin. When I continue to add onto the piece, creating assemblages from handmade and found objects, I make 3 dimensional art for the wall as well as free-standing sculptures. In most of my work, you will continue to be surprised by detail easy to miss initially, with layer upon layer of drawing mixed with painting.

"I think of myself as a colorist-that's my love, my strength."

Melanie Rolfes grew up in Europe and that experience continues to influence her stylistic and color choices, her desire to distill emotions by way of color. She works in a mode she calls Atmospheric Impressions, which is to say that her paintings have a relationship to Abstract Expressionism, but are also created as evocative, color-saturated points of focus and meditation. Designed to express her deepest feelings, and so connect with a viewer, she combines techniques learned while studying painting in California with more experimental methods and materials. Non-objective and grounded in sophisticated color theory she says, "I am guided by my passion for discovery; not only for new places, but also within myself and others."

Artist Bio:

Rae Boyles studied at American Institute of Art in Chicago and Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. This was followed by a vibrant career as an art director and creative director for a number of consumer product companies and agencies. Although painting all through those years in addition to her career, in 2001 Rae became a full time fine artist. Continuing studies included classes at Moulin de Perot in Southern France, Red Deer College in Alberta, Canada and Fine Arts Workshop in Atlanta. Rae began teaching encaustic painting at Fine Arts Workshop in 2010. Rae has also been invited to teach at Red Deer College.

Rae's work is primarily mixed media abstract but at times incorporates other media including, photography, video, poetry and choreography. Her work has been shown in prestigious galleries and notably, she was accepted as one of 20 National Artists in the highly respected A.I.R. Gallery in New York.

Rae's recognitions include 2016 Platform Artist of the Year Finalist with RMG, which hosts Spectrum Miami and Art Expo New York, 2016, Mixed Media Artist of the Year at the ADC Awards in Cincinnati, OH, The Bronze Award for Painting Forward, Best in Show at JF Gallery, West Palm Beach, FL, and multiple merit awards in National Shows including the Valdosta National, Grosse Pointe Art Center, MI and the APS National Show at Chastain in Atlanta with print work.

Rae lives in Roswell, GA and owns Fountainhead Art Space, a community based art program to mentor emerging artists.

Hans Hoffman (1880-1996)

Atlanta based artist, Anne Dosso, is the daughter of a jazz drummer and a granddaughter of a Radio City Music Hal conductor, both of whom mentored her formative years as a musician and an artist. A graduate of the University of Central Florida with a BA in Graphic design and a minor in art history, Dosso switched gears as a fine artist after leaving Kennedy Space Center as a digital Media specialist for NASA.

Leaning towards Abstract expressionism, the catalyst in her work, she paints with a rhythmic interplay between texture, color, and shapes made with gesturing geometrical and free forms. Density of the paint conflicts with antiquely transparent layers causing tension. Then you see her expression pushing ward the surface of the canvas as her bold line work and painterly drips flourish.

Dosso was a featured artist with William Sonoma Home and Ugallery. Her work is collected both privately and publicly.

Artist Bio:

Born in Highland Park, Illinois and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, Kroeppler works in mixed media, contemporary portraiture and still life. He received his MFA in Drawing and Painting and BA in Studio Art from the Katherine K. Herberger College of Fine Art at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona.

Kroeppler has received several awards for his work including two First Place Awards from The Marietta Cobb Museum of Art.

Artist Bio:

Landscapes are the primary subject of my images. Many of the images I create are a response to the urbanization that has been occurring around me for years. Through the medium of oil paint I intend to preserve places that are constantly at risk of becoming new shopping centers and luxury town home subdivisions. I feel as if North Georgia is disappearing. In painting old, derelict properties I also aim to capture the beauty of mother nature as she takes back what is hers. Whether it be the decay of a man made object or simply a magnificent sunset trumping a concrete jungle, her resiliency is apparent.

Artist Bio:

Ron Sherman has been based in Atlanta since 1971 and has traveled extensively for advertising, corporate and editorial clients. He has been published in Time, Life, Newsweek, Business Week, Forbes and Sports Illustrated. His corporate clients include IBM, Coca-Cola, Georgia Power, Southern Natural Gas, and Eastman Kodak. His stock photo archives of over 500,000 images have been licensed for annual reports, advertising, multi-media productions and posters. He started Computer Aided Photography, Inc. in 1991 to explore the creative possibilities of combining the use of photography and computer technology. In 2103 Emory University Rose Library acquired his 1970's collection of 750 Black and White siver gelatin Atlanta prints. The National Museum of African American History and Culture has his photograph of an Atlanta homeowner on permanent display and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum has a five foot mural of Hank Aaron rounding second base after breaking Babe Ruth's home run record.

Artist Bio:

Walter Arnold is a self-taught fine art photographer born in Tallahassee, Florida in 1981. Walter grew up in a creative and artistic family and spent most of his childhood in Elmira, New York. After living for years in Florida he settled in Hendersonville, North Carolina and now calls the mountains home.

After picking up his first digital SLR camera in 2006, Walter used the beauty of Western North Carolina to help train his creative eye and hone his photographic skills. In 2009, he stumbled on an abandoned airplane graveyard in St. Augustine, Florida. Shooting the abandoned planes, he discovered his passion for abandonment photography. Since then he has focused on developing his own personal style of photography that he calls "The Art of Abandonment".

Walter's vision draws him to capture unusual and artistic scenes in places that others often pass by. He employs an artistic technique called High Dynamic Range photography with many of his images. By capturing multiple exposures ranging from dark to bright, his technique reveals a greater range of light and detail in a scene than could be captured with a single image. This, coupled with Walter's creative interpretation of a scene, allows him to create non-traditional and sometimes surreal images, that bring to life the forgotten locations that he explores.

Walter's photography has received national and international recognition. Most notably, Hollywood movie director Ron Howard selected one of his images to inspire a short film "When You Find Me". Howard chose the photograph out of almost 100,000 other entries as part of Canon's Project Imagin8ion. Walter's award-winning work has been featured on MSNBC, CBS This Morning, HGTV, Yahoo News, PBS, Business Insider, Conde Nast, Lonely Planet, and many more. Walter has also worked with camera manufacturer Sigma, creating images used in numerous AD campaigns published in over 30 magazines.

Artist's Statement:

"I strive to create nontraditional images and scenes in locations that most people will never have the pleasure to see. I explore locations that have been abandoned and create collections of images that tell a story to the viewer, both as singular pictures and as a whole experience. These abandoned buildings and locations speak volumes when you enter them, even in their abandoned and decaying state. Every room you look into tells a story and every artifact from a bygone era holds years of meaning and lost purpose. I enjoy searching for beauty in uncommon places and by doing so, help to preserve the history, memory and spirit that still shines ever so faintly in the dust and decay of these modern ruins."

Artist Bio:

Branch art is not unique. Many people use branches as rustic or natural touches in their environments. What is unique is Tom Chambers' ability to join branches in a manner that looks completely natural. A combination of wood and acrylic, the pieces give the illusion of naturally flowing branches. First, the bark is stripped and the branches are sanded. Then Tom arranges the branches in an artistic pattern. The joints are created using a combination of glue, wood filler and epoxy. A base coat, acrylic paint and a sealer coat are then applied, all by brush. Each distinctive piece of art is one-of-a-kind.

Tom's interest in art began in high school where his first art classes were taught by the man who was his football and track team coach. What started as an easy elective developed into life-long creativity. His passion was ignited

while attending the University of Tampa on a football scholarship. There, he studied Sculpture, Drawing and Painting. His art was put on hold after he married, began a family and entered the business world.

In 2007, after 34 years in retail, Tom took an early retirement to pursue his love of art full-time. He and his wife Brenda moved from Florida to the mountains of north Georgia. The landscape and terrain provided the ideal setting to expand upon the original branch art idea, conceived from a magazine photo and his imagination, 15 years prior.

Tom is a member of the Blue Ridge Mountains Art Association in Blue Ridge, GA, has served on their Board of Directors and will again serve in 2019. He is also a Signature Member of the Southern Appalachian Artists Guild, an organization under the umbrella of BRMAA. In January 2012, he was one of five member artists to participate in the Regional Art Exhibition at The Bascom: A Center for the Visual Arts in Highlands, NC where his piece "Midnight Blooms" was sold. Also in 2012, he became a member of the High Country Artisans, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the local arts, located in Blairsville, GA.
In 2018, Orlando's Fall Fiesta in the Park honored Tom with an inaugural Award of Excellence. He took Third Place in 3D in the 2017 Southern Appalachian Artists Guild National Juried Show in Blue Ridge, GA where the year before he received an Award of Merit for two of the three pieces that were juried into the show. He also earned an Award of Merit in 2016 and 2017 at Orlando's Fiesta in the Park, where in 2015 he received Second Place Fine Art. 2015 also brought a Best Booth Award at Fall Festival on Ponce and anHonorable Mentionat Alpharetta Arts Streetfest. May 2012, Tom was awarded Second Place Overall at the Buckhead Spring Arts & Crafts Festival in Atlanta. In November, he was judged Best in Show at Orlando's Fiesta in the Park, after placing Second in Fine Art in 2011. The Fiesta committee purchased a 9-piece grouping of artwork to be hung in the Orlando Public Library's permanent gallery. Tom has artwork in many public locations, including two commissioned pieces in the Union County Community Center, which also houses the Chamber of Commerce, located in his chosen home town of Blairsville, GA. There is one piece residing in the Citizen's Art Gallery at the Tifton City Hall and one piece in the capitol office of Georgia Speaker of the House, David Ralston. In February 2010, he was asked to create a centerpiece sculpture, with the theme of "Lady in Red", for the Southeastern Horticulture Show in Atlanta, GA. Artist Bio:

Born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) on January 24, 1969, Sergey started studying art as a young child. At the age of 3 , he developed meningitis and became paralyzed, unable to walk or speak for several years. Attending a School for children with disabilities until he was 7 , he found comfort in painting. At the age of 8, he was enrolled in a school for artists and then went on to attend college at the prestigious Serovo Art Institute . There he gained extensive knowledge in all the classic art forms including European Art History, photography, printing processes, sculpture, restoration methods and painting from still-life to portraits.

"School was very disciplined," says Sergey, who is still deaf in his right ear from his childhood meningitis. "We did very traditional things like still-life, painting bowls and squares. The teachers told us what to paint - there was no freedom. There was no such thing as abstract because it was considered very Western and evil. The school was free - they gave the paint, the brushes, and the teachers, everything was paid for by the government. Russia went with talent . But once we got our diplomas, we were supposed to get a job and contribute back to society."

Graduated Art University
Sergey graduated from the Art University in 1988 when he was 18. Glasnost was just coming in and Gorbachev allowed free enterprise on the street. But while the young artist would paint city-scapes in oil, he was forced to sell his artwork through organized crime that controlled the streets, giving 70 percent of his profits to them.

Filled with wanderlust and dreams of what he could accomplish, in early 1991 Sergey made the decision to try and come to America to find the artistic freedom he desperately desired.

His Style
In 1994 , Sergey attended the World Cup Soccer game in California and visited Napa Valley while he was there. He was enchanted by the grapes, the beautiful landscape and the overall ambiance. That changed his art from the traditional European style depicting stark realism that was so prevalent in Russia to painting a bright, vivid palette of land and sea in primary colors.

"The technique of painting that I have embraced is definitely the Post Impressionism style made famous by Van Gogh," says Sergey. "I love the simplicity of colors and energy found in his work. The bold, unrealistic colors and expressive brushstrokes of my predecessors are my tool as i try to bring a three-dimensional feeling out from the paintings by using color , perspective and a thick texture. My paintings are like fairy tales-- a dream place. I don't see things as realistic. I allow the fantastic to happen. When I travel and paint, the sun, the grapes and the smells of California speak to me. But anything can motivate me--a picture, a cut watermelon,or even a color."

I retired early because of my permanent disabled veteran status. I was the proverbial world traveler, having been on five continents and more countries than I can remember. I have been painting for three years this August. If I could have any artist's talent, it would probably be Dali. Dana Enders is a Southeast Regional plein air painter. Dana is drawn to paint subjects that are bathed in beautiful, dramatic lighting. The effects of light play into the simplification of shapes as well as the unexpected color combinations that emerge from her acrylic paintings. Dana's paintings include landscapes and seascapes of Georgia and the Florida gulf coast. She is also well known for her custom pet portraits.

Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Dana received her BFA degree with a focus in graphic design from Virginia Commonwealth University. She began her career as a professional graphic designer after moving to Atlanta in 1996 and has resided in Alpharetta for the past 20 years with her husband and two daughters. The combination of working as a graphic designer while being a wife and raising two girls has taken priority for most of that time. Painting has patiently sat on the back burner of life.

Over the past six years, Dana has made the conscious choice to make painting her priority. Dana is an
active member of the Roswell Fine Arts Alliance and has received numerous awards in their gallery shows and competitions. Her work can be found throughout the year in local shows and venues such as the Fickle Pickle and Uptown Cafe in Roswell, GA. Dana also enjoys participating in arts festivals and for the last several years has participated in the Wesleyan Artist Market in Norcross, GA, as well as the Piedmont Arts Festival in
Atlanta. Most recently, Dana has been selected as one of 40 Georgia artists that will participate in Georgia Color Plein Air, a 4-day event sponsored by Olmsted and taking place this October 31st - Nov. 3rd, 2019 in Monroe, Georgia.

Artist Bio:

Lauren is an Australian living in Atlanta with her husband. Her artistic focus in Australia was working on set designs and managing theatrical productions. One set design involved painting a large canvas over 15 feet long and 12 feet high. From this experience Lauren began to delve into fluid art. She likes to call it Flow Motion Art. As her work has a feeling of movement and dynamics.

Lauren began to paint and explore the different techniques involved in creating her Flow Motion Art. The more she painted the more she discovered her love for color. The way color 'plays' together is part of the technique of flow motion paintings. We all know that red and blue makes purple. But what does purple, orange do together on a canvas?

The use of pouring medium allows the paints to flow across the canvas as Lauren manipulates the paint using a variety of tools from breath, gravity, high pressured air, paper towels and cups to name a few tools. Each piece is unique.

Artist: Nate Nardi

Atlanta native Nate Nardi always found himself drawn to creative expression through making. He discovered his passion for glassblowing in 2001 and realized that glass art was the discipline he wanted to specialize.

Nardi graduated from Jacksonville University in 2004 with a BFA in glass art, receiving an Excellence in Art award from the Dean. In 2009, he graduated with a MFA from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. He has also completed many workshops at different craft schools around the country, like the Pilchuck School of Glass. Nardi received commissions to make glass objets d'art for several prominent artists including Kiki Smith and assisted with numerous large scale public installation works such as, Jon Christie's and Caroline Madden's Lyrical Light, held at the Times Union Center in Jacksonville Florida.

In the years of 2009-2011, Nardi worked as a glassblowing assistant to renowned glass artist, Richard Jolley, in Knoxville, TN. In 2011, Nardi moved back to his roots to pursue his dream of making unique hand-blown glass art. He is owner and operator of Decatur Glassblowing located on the east side of Atlanta. His primary artistic expression is the abstraction of natural form which can be seen in all of his work, whether sculptural, decorative, or functional.

A nearly native Atlanta, John utilizes parts from broken down or otherwise useless machinery, great finds at scrapyards, salvage stores and things found on the side of the road, reinventing them in unique ways for home or office. The common threads are design and craftsmanship.

Aaron Artrip is an American Musician and Artist focusing on the relationship between what we see and what we hear. Balancing between these areas, he searches through discarded, often forgotten analog and digital hardware systems to find musical forms of rhythm, pitch, and pattern. Aarons work takes many forms including drawings, prints, sound recordings, installations and performances.
In his free time, he enjoys laying down some sick nasty beats with a drum machine, creating new sounds with his synthesizers, or teaching a workshop.

His current project is "Waves: I-VI," a series of silkscreened graphic scores.

His last project is titled "The Big Dum Drum Machine."

Aaron is currently an MFA Candidate at Georgia State University.

Hey! I'm Noosh, an Atlanta printmaker and woodcut artist. I love putting smiles on faces by creating amusing designs out of wood. Since studying printmaking at Kennesaw State University, I enjoy showing my work in galleries, at festivals, and on the streets of Atlanta for all to find joy in!

MY PROCESS
I carve designs out of wood, roll them up with ink and, with the help of my handy dandy press, transfer the ink from the block onto paper, a t-shirt or anything else I can fit through my press. Sometimes instead of printing the blocks, I'll paint them and create a unique one of a kind piece of art, never to be printed!

MY PASSION
Carving, printing, painting and creating makes me happy! So I create happy things to make other people happy too! I enjoy finding interesting shapes, funny expressions, and showing animals doing fun things for all to enjoy! Repetition intrigues me. I like patterns, and textures and enjoy the challenge of expressing that within the rules and confines of woodcut printmaking.

Laura Vela is a Chicana multimedia and interdisciplinary artist in the Atlanta area. Vela graduated from Kennesaw State University with a BFA concentrating in Painting and Drawing and a minor in Gender and Women's Studies. I am self-taught and believe art should be alive and each piece translate the beauty of movement, reflective light, transparencies and intense color.

None of the pieces are sketched in advance. There is beauty in spontaneous inspiration which is why I choose to take this approach.

The materials used are museum-grade acrylics on custom built wood panels, utilizing a variety of brushes and palette knives in addition to other unconventional tools.

My goal is to bring an uplifting, alive and, even sometimes, playful painting to the viewer in order to share my love of texture, movement and color.

Artist Bio:

Cristina is extremely interested in texture and dimension. Her desire is to create a beautiful visual, as well as an intriguing tactile experience. She wants to encourage viewers to travel and explore abstracts within a multi-sensory field.

She paints with vibrant colored paints (acrylic, oil, watercolors, mica powders, inks), which are combined into resin. Other materials such as cloth, texture paste, gold leaf, metal, glue, paper, foil, organic material, etc. are also sometimes used in order to create additional depth and multiple surfaces in her pieces. This is done in small, strategically planned layers and then repeated 2-30 times. Each layer is manipulated with heat, fire, air, and numerous tools to create highly textured, luminescent & multi-dimensional masterpieces.

Cristina currently lives in Greer, South Carolina, where her studio is located. She started using resin 6 years ago in 3D jewelry and has evolved into creating dimensional art in a larger capacity. Her desire to constantly evolve and push her limits has instilled in her the drive to create high-quality colorful work that makes an immediate impact.

Artist: Yasharel Manzy

Artist Bio:
Yasharel Manzy was born in the ancient Jewish ghetto of Esfahan, Iran, in 1947. He immigrated to the United States at the age of twenty-one. After twenty years of doing many different types of work, Yasharel was overwhelmed by the need for artistic expression, and finally at the age of forty, he abandoned his last business to devote himself to painting. He began traveling extensively and was especially taken with the landscapes of southern France and Italy's Tuscany area. These dramatic vistas became his muse and from time to time he is drawn back to revisit them.

Yasharel is primarily a self-taught intuitive painter who gains inspiration from both the world around him and his deep love of classical music. His paintings touch upon the emotional core that we each hold within us.

Yasharel has been exhibiting regularly in Atlanta for more than twenty-six years. He has had over forty solo exhibitions in galleries in the United States.

Artist's Statement
When I was six years old I tried to copy one of Raphael's drawings. The result of the drawing gave me such exaltation that I could not sleep that night. I could not wait until I showed the drawing to my teacher the next day. My very first experience in painting was at the age of thirteen during the summer vacation. I would spend long afternoons doing watercolors. The subject matter was mostly the scenes of the city. I attempted to paint again at the age of thirty-three. Then to my dislike due to the quality of the paintings and my lack of experience, I abandoned painting once again. I suppose due to the lack of patience I always wanted to be able to paint without going through the pain of schools and learning.

Then came the winter of 1990. While strolling through a gallery a painting with a French scene caught my attention. There I was glued to the floor and frozen. A few moments later this incredible feeling overwhelmed me. I found myself at the crossroads of my life, and I knew there was no turning back. At that time I was a partner in a business in Atlanta. To be able to change my banal way of life and go where my heart was that afternoon I decided to change my ways and to become a painter. Now it is very clear that I almost had no part in the transformation that was taking place that day.

The following day I changed my office from a place of business into a studio. For the first time in twenty years I could not wait to get to work so I could paint. I did learn through books and frequenting great museums of the world. I painted at least eight hours a day for the next six years. Then I was capable of standing alone, and I became a full-time painter. As a self-taught painter I have had the utmost difficulties learning since I am a terrible teacher and an impatient student. His paintings have sold throughout the world.

Artist Bio:

Ismael Gómez Peralta was born in 1967 in Batabanó, Cuba. He is a graduate of San Alejandro Academy in Havana. He has served as an art instructor at La Casa de la Cultura in Batabanó, as a professor of drawing at the Instituto Superior de Pedagogía Enrique José Varona, and as a professor of drawing at San Alejandro. His personal exhibitions in Cuba include Una Cuidad y Otra at the Raúl Martinez Gallery, Havana, and La Cuidad del Silencio at the Charles Chaplin Cinema Gallery, Havana. With Cernuda Arte, he has participated in fine art fairs in the U.S. including Art Chicago, Art Miami, and ArteAméricas. His most recent shows include Requiem for Havana at Cernuda Arte and Una Isla, Dos Versiones, at the Miami Dade College Kendall Campus gallery. The artist resides in Miami, Florida.

Exploring Form and Texture

Void of color the world is reduced to its essence of form and structure. My black and white images are an exploration of this monochromatic world of patterns, shapes, textures and tones, a search for form and texture as found in the natural world. I am particularly drawn to exploring the environment for naturally occurring geometric patterns and to capturing the myriad different textures found in nature, both tactile and visual

My more occasional color work uses form and color itself as the essence of the image. The shapes and colors being as important than the actual subject matter of the photograph.

Although I use modern digital equipment to capture, process and print my images, I am a traditionalist at heart and use image processing programs to perform only traditional darkroom techniques such as dodging and burning, tonal adjustments and contrast control to create the printed image as I visualized it in the field.

I am an abstract painter and mixed-media artist who creates work that incorporates both traditional and experimental artistic techniques. My process of suspending powdered metallic pigments, vibrant alcohol inks, and acrylic paints in epoxy resin and other mediums spark a visually bold chemical reaction.

As a result, my work is both organic as well as abstract in nature and evokes images that range from earthly landscapes to cellular anatomy or even magnificent swirling galaxies.

Artist Bio:

Kristin Thorsen is an Atlanta based artist, exhibiting her work in the area and also across the nation. In 1999, Kristin accepted a grant from Georgia Perimeter College to study painting in Imatra, Finland. In 2002, she was accepted by the Atlanta College of Art and granted a portfolio scholarship. Kristin made the most of this opportunity to hone her technical skills, receiving her BFA, magna cum laude, in 2004.

Artist Bio:

Richard F. Webb, a classically trained and award winning artist, is renowned for his automotive paintings. Throughout his life, Richard has been drawn to the design and romance of classic cars, modern machines, and race cars, but in reality, he'll paint just about anything that moves! He has painted a number of boats, yachts, and airplanes in addition to his automotive pieces. Richard pulls from his history as an avid car collector and former racer as inspiration for his work.

As a grid style artist, Richard is able to capture even the smallest details and obtain exact dimensional correctness in his paintings. He begins his design process by creating meticulously composed images. Once the concept is fully captured, he grids his work on deep set wood panels and then applies layers of acrylic paint and texture mediums such as sand, modeling paste, and epoxy. Known for taking calculated risks with his art, Richard will often use nontraditional items as "canvas" such as surfboards, doors, and barn wood. He will also step outside of the automotive realm to paint abstracts such as his "Oxidation Series" (a take on automotive rust), portraits, and landscapes.

Richard has been commissioned worldwide by art collectors, car aficionados and major global brands and is the winner of a number of prestigious awards. He studied graphic arts at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and advertising design and graduate level painting at Florida State University where he was the recipient of the first BFA ever awarded. Richard currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

Artist Bio:

Kathy Rennell Forbes is an accomplished International artist and instructor. She has taught plein air workshops in Cuba, Italy, France, Spain and the USA. Her artwork is in private and corporate collections around the world, including the French Olympic Committee in Paris. In 2019, Forbes taught watercolor workshops in Vence, France; Cinque Terre, Italy and Abiquiu, New Mexico (Ghost Ranch).

The artist is a Signature Member and past President of the Georgia Watercolor Society and has won numerous awards.

Forbes was one of thirty invited master artists to the prestigious Olmsted Plein Air Invitational in Atlanta and Georgia Color's Inaugural event. Recent awards: 1st Place at the Plein Air Paint Out (PAPO)in Eatonton, GA; 1st Place at the Lake Country Fine Art Show, and Best Watercolor at Stone Mountain PAPO.

Forbes earned her BFA in Art and Art Education at the University of Georgia in Athens. Kathy currently creates, instructs and exhibits her paintings at Studio Z in Atlanta's Westside Arts District., at Binders Art Supply & Frames in Atlanta, GA and the Art House in Acworth, GA.

Artist Statement

Although I create many of my paintings in the studio or at live demos, my favorite place to paint is outdoors. There I become one with nature, lost in the scenery and the painting. It also keeps my work fresh and provides new challenges, whether it is a new location in a different country or dealing with the changing elements of nature. I oftentimes work in a small watercolor journal making notes in the margins and then create larger studio pieces from them, especially when traveling overseas.
