Why do I shave, because kids still get cancer and my little girls, Fallon and Georgie, are the most important thing in the world to me. No parent should ever lose a child to cancer. As I explained to Dena Sherwood, the founder of this wonderful organization a few years ago, "When the day comes that there is no more childhood cancer, I will no longer have my head shaved for this event." When I was first introduced to the Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation several years ago, I had no idea how it would come to change my life. I have been extremely fortunate to be able to be part of such a wonderful event and organization. I shave to help the families hurt by this awful disease. God Bless and thanks for your Support.
Why Do I Shave?
Childhood Cancer has inflicted devastating effects on countless families the world over. The Arms Wide Open Foundation has provided an incredible amount of support to help eradicate this disease. I am shaving my head this year in support of those who are battling this disease each and every day.
Why do I Shave? As a father of three healthy girls I feel blessed. So I'm shaving my head for my hero Hudson Lillystone.Hudson was 3-years old when she was diagnosed with leukemia. She was started on treatment the same day she was diagnosed. Part of the treatment was chemotherapy and high doses of steroids. When Hudson began to lose her hair, she asked her parents if she could shave her head. "We got out the clippers and she smiled through the whole thing," her mother, Emily, said. Hudson likes to confidently declare that she is "Hudson Strong" and never wanted to cover up the fact that she has a bald head. Hudson is in remission now and proudly wears her hair with vivid colors. It's an extension of her colorful and vibrant personality.
I am shaving my head for Hudson and all the children who have to fight the battle that no human, let alone child should ever have to fight!
Why I am Shaving:
Reasons = My wife and brother-in-law are both cancer survivors. I lost a young friend to cancer and on his behalf, I support "Wiffle For Cancer." Finally, who needs a reason to help others? It's the right thing to do!
"As a father of three I cannot imagine what children and the families of children with cancer go through. If this simple gesture of shaving my head can help raise money to cure childhood cancer, it is the least I can do. "
I shave in the hope that in the near future, no child will ever suffer from cancer.
Cancer is as unwelcome as it is widespread in lives today. That anyone but especially young kids have to carry this burden demands actions - shaving is my small attempt to help and highlight to friends and colleagues the truly great work being completed by the Arms Wide Open Foundation.
My entire life has revolved around family, and as I have gotten older that family has been blessed with many children. I am the father of four, and am known as Uncle James to 15 nieces and eight nephews and Coach James to a host of others. Kids are my life, and I would not trade that life for anything in this world. I am extremely grateful to say that my children and all those nieces and nephews have been healthy to this point, but I could not imagine the toll it would take if that were not the case. I cannot think of a better way to express that gratitude than to lend a helping hand to those families that have been affected by childhood cancer. Knowing that there are such great organizations like Arms Wide Open dedicated to helping children and their families day in and day out is inspiration enough. But unfortunately, like most of us out there, knowing families that have battled cancer and fought alongside their children is why I am getting involved with Arms Wide Open and participating in this year's Shave For A Cure.
Why do I Shave? In December 2007 I lost my father, John Beale, to cancer. I look back at that time as the most difficult in my life. My father was 67. During one of his trips to Sloan Kettering, my father and I watched a mother and father bring their two children in for what I assume was a chemo treatment for one of them, the other had shaved in solidarity. My father turned to me and simply said, "that's not right Jim". Shortly after my father passed away, as my brothers and I looked for ways to keep his spirit alive, I met Dena Sherwood. I knew at that moment, that Dena and her foundation The Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation, would be a way that I could keep my father's fighting spirit alive and help these kids and their families fight a fight they never signed up for. My wife Annette and I are blessed with three healthy children of our own, Madison (16), Jonathan (13) and Jacquelyn (9). Jacquie, our youngest, never had the opportunity to meet her Pop. That weighs on me in ways that I cannot explain. I shave today in honor of the children lost, the ones still fighting, their families and my father. We miss you Dad.
Billy is a Stage IV Neuroblastoma Survivor, who has defied the odds and is the inspiration for Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation. Although Billy suffered greatly for many years, through the foundation he has been able to help many children just like him and has given them and their families hope and access to less toxic treatment options.
Why do I shave? 2018 was my first time attending the Shave4aCure event and I was deeply moved by the event. My daughter is the most important thing in the world to me and no parent should ever have to lose their child to cancer. I shave to raise money for the Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation in hopes that we can eradicate this disease!
Why I shave?
I am going to shave my head in honor of my cousin Billy, who is a cancer survivor, and all children who are battling, lost their fight, or have fought cancer and now are cancer free. I am participating in this event to raise both money and awareness for Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation. This foundation means a lot to me because it has helped and will help so many families who are or will go through the same battle my cousin has.
