The ability to clearly communicate in English is a critical skill immigrants and refugees pursue as they seek to integrate into their new communities. World Relief Memphis' Connect Language Center offers newcomers quality English language instruction in hope of seeing neighborhoods, homes, and families more integrated and empowered.
While our building and offices have ADA access, this gift will help World Relief install a stairlift to provide lower-level access for our clients needing extra physical assistance getting downstairs to our Connect Language Center.
Goal: $5000
World Relief's most recent refugee & immigrant arrivals face another hurdle as they strive for stability. Transportation! World Relief's van ministry creates connections for them, restores dignity, friendship, community and access to English, medical appointments, and more.
World Relief's goal is to hire a part time driver, as well as maintain their vans so they are reliable for clients, staff, and volunteers.
Goal: $12,000
This spring, World Relief will be hosting their second annual eye clinic in partnership with the Southern College of Optometry. This clinic is vital because immigrants often lack optical insurance or affordable options for eye exams, glasses, or specialized care. Last spring we saw 240 patients! This year we hope to serve 300 immigrant clients with eye exams, glasses, and referrals for cataract surgeries or other specialized care.
Goal: $3000
World Relief's Connect Language Center hosts "Gateway to English" - an immersive class for vulnerable refugee women. This group of women have endured physical, mental and/or emotional trauma and their education was interrupted or prevented before or during their forced displacement. Most are single-head-of households, sacrificing for the stability of their families. This class meets 4 mornings/week, and the women are empowered with educational soft skills, literacy training and English training - all that address the whole person, in community with other women. This class is at no charge to eligible women, but costs $10,000 per year to offer.
Goal: $10,000
Help World Relief Memphis replenish their Benevolence Fund for their most vulnerable clients, overcoming emergency hurdles like prescription costs, a utility bill, emergency rent assistance before a job gets started, acute dental needs, and more.
