Nissan Engel was born in Haifa, Israel and was dedicated to painting from his youth. His formal training as an artist began in his native land at the Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem. He later received a diploma from Centre Dramatique de l'Est in Strasbourg, France for theatre set and costume design.

He is an artist's artist, having progressed through all the classical phases of apprenticeship before arriving at his own unique style of collage. Nissan moved to New York in 1965 and stayed there for ten years before settling in Paris, France in 1975. He discovered his affinity for collage after working on a series of stained-glass windows in New York and Maryland, a job that inspired him to create intense blocks of color with painted collage elements.

Musical themes are often his subject, giving his work its remarkable sense of harmony and rhythm. Nissan refers to his own work as "Abstract Lyricism." Translating the feelings and emotions of music and color into the visual arts; he holds together his compositions by their likeness to tonal and harmonic qualities of music. A similar feel pervades his engravings, which usually stem from his collages. He began exploring this print medium in the early 1980's in Paris, and quickly became as masterful at engraving his visual music on metal plates as at piecing it together in collage.

"I am a retired teacher, a member of most local (Shreveport) art organizations and a supporter of the arts and other artists. I have won many awards, enjoy the art community and exhibiting my work. I also enjoy sharing with others my photography and impressions of my surroundings. All work is now digital and allows for sometimes altering with Photoshop and Painter. I am not a purist about photography and many of my favorites have been manipulated to present my own personal taste. I feel that the camera is just one tool in the creation of a picture.

I treat photography as an art form and not a casual taking of pictures. Most of what I know is by experience, either by trying or observing what others have done. I most enjoy capturing emotions with my photography. Subjects are varied, eclectic.

"Working in a variety of media as I explore various techniques of expression, I find that the tools I pick up on any given day reflect my mood and spirit at the time. As a visual artist, I am primarily a watercolorist and also enjoy working in pastel as well as painting on glassware. Within the realm of watercolor my work also varies one piece may be very realistic and exquisitely rendered; then I may cut loose with bold swatches of color in a more abstract, almost Fauvist, composition. I frequently employ the pouring of luminous washes in my work. I find that varying my technique, materials, and medium, depending on mood and subject matter, keeps my work fresh and exciting to me. When I begin to draw and paint a few years ago, my subject matter was usually a still life or a floral. More recently I have searched out more unusual subjects and landscapes, often choosing a unique vantage point for my composition. Light and shadow patterns frequently catch my eye and are incorporated into my work. All of my paintings have a fresh, clean look and reflect my own happiness with where I am in my life. I am pleased when my work brings pleasure to others, but I truly enjoy the process itself.

After a long, varied and satisfying career in education, I retired content with what I had accomplished and eager to explore other facets of life that I had put on hold for so many years. Freed from the constraints of daily work responsibilities, and joined in pursuits of an artistic nature by my supportive photographer husband, we are able to travel some and life is great.

As I have discovered in all the other phases of my life, the more one learns, the more there is to learn, and that is what I am about: reading, listening, observing, going to workshops and demonstrations, experimenting, stretching, failing, reevaluating, and sometimes, to my delight, succeeding. Although I have no formal art education, I have enjoyed studying with many nationally known artists in watercolor and pastel."

He has contracted with private corporations, cities, parishes, counties and states and has been responsible for overseeing construction crews in four states at one time.

Dickie Martin is a believer in "if you really want to do something, just go for it." He grew up with a desire to draw and paint, but didn't realize his true talent and ability until age 64. When he told his family he was going to be an artist, they said "go for it" and that's just what he did.

He joined with a supportive friend, Charlotte Clifton, who is also a great artist, and together they have created some beautiful works.

"Art work is the one thing that relaxes me. It puts me in the place I am painting at the time. I don't know why or how it works, I just take it as comes. Most of the work I do is either somewhere I've been, or something I have done in my lifetime, or something I would like to do," says Dickie.

His paintings range from landscapes to trains to oilfield scenes... even birds. His greatest satisfaction is seeing other people enjoy his work.

Robin Johnson Clawson earned her BFA degree, magna cum laude, from the Louisiana State University School of Environmental Design in 1972. She is originally from Baton Rouge. She has lived in Shreveport, Louisiana, since 1977, following a two-and-a-half year stay in Washington, D.C., where she was secretary for correspondence to the Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. She was the first Director of the Shreveport Regional Arts Council before retiring for a time to stay at home with her son, Johnson.

Robin was the co-owner of Erie Street Company-a painted clothing and textile manufacturer-for eight years before beginning to do portraiture full time in 1994. She teaches private, beginner painting classes in Shreveport and is available to conduct weekend workshops. She also tutors serious art students and assists them with portfolios preparatory to college application.

Her portraits depict subjects of all ages and are done in oil pastel and pencil on paper. Each piece emphasizes a natural pose, usually in a botanical setting, and is an integrated design in the manner of a genre painting.

"The son of an Air Force officer I moved around quite a bit. While still in high school, I won an emerging artists award in Savannah, Georgia.

My Bachelor of Arts degree was earned at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. While there, I exhibited at the William Rockhill Nelson Museum. Throughout my undergraduate years, I created portraits and sold other artworks to earn money for medical school.

I studied art briefly at the Ecole nationale superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France.

I was graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1968. Internship and residency in general surgery in San Antonio followed, thence a research fellowship in gastrointestinal surgery in Salt Lake City.

Thereafter, a 25-year combined medical and military career in the US Air Force ensured. I rose to the rank of Brigadier General, last serving as Commander Surgeon for Strategic Air Command. My highest decoration was the AF Distinguished Service Award.

Through it all, I continued to paint and to exhibit. There were showings at the Torpedo Factory, Alexandria, Virginia, and at the Coleman Gallery, York, Alabama. I won the All-Air Force Art Competition in the late eighties. I took leave for studies with Martha Mayer Ehrlebacher, Anthony Ryder, and other artistic mentors.

Leaving the service in 1992, I became chairman of surgical services at Presbyterian in Dallas. My family and I moved to Shreveport in 1996 at the behest of the Biomedical Research Foundation. When that grant work ended, the Tormas had already decided to call Shreveport home. Working in the Willis-Knighton Health System in wound care and hyperbaric medicine, I wound up my medical career in 2012.

Now I devote myself full time to the pursuit of Mike Torma artworks. Juried works have qualified me for the "Roster" [signature] appellation through Shreveport Regional Arts Council, and the highest exhibition tier with Bossier Art Council."

Susan has been teaching art to all ages for more than 25 years. She is currently the head of the art department at Loyola and teaches the visual art classes. Devonne's home town is New Orleans, Louisiana. She lived most of her childhood in the NOLA area and also in Vidalia, Louisiana. Always loving to draw and create, she started painting in oils and acrylics in high school in Mandeville, Louisiana. After attending Louisiana Tech, studying under Albino Hinojosa, Ed Pinkston, and Don Walton, she finished with a Fine Arts Degree. After college she moved to Houston, Texas. There, she started painting watercolor, after meeting Joy Rumscheidt, a master of watercolor here and abroad. Devonne has worked with all forms of mediums, but definitely prefers watercolor due to the known reputation of being quite demanding. Water is an active and complex partner in the process. You must learn how to anticipate the behavior of the water , rather than to control and dominate it.

Matthew was a member of the Holy Angels' family for many many years. He lived in one of the group homes and loved going into the community with his friends. He loved dancing to Michael Jackson's song "Billie Jean" and could moon walk. Matthew was a die hard New Orleans Saints fan and absolutely loved Drew Brees. His favorite areas in AngelWorks were the Painting, Ceramics, and Jewelry Enterprises. Matthew was quite an actor. Each year, he played the part of Jesus in the Easter Program. Matthew quietly passed away and received his wings in 2019. A few days before going to his heavenly home, he received an autographed picture of Drew Brees, which brought a smile to his face. We are eternally grateful to Matthew's family for entrusting their loved one to us.

He also enjoys attending community outings such as movie outings, going out to eat, attending festivals, etc.
