Janet Anderson's life journey has been a meandering one. Formerly an attorney and devoted stay-at-home mother, Janet is now a full-time professional artist whose representational landscapes and figurative oil paintings reflect the beauty of remote, quiet places and moments of intimate connection. In her short time as a full-time artist Janet has received national recognition for her work, having had paintings juried into prestigious national shows including those sponsored by Oil Painters of America and American Impressionist Society.
Janet grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where her interests were primarily sports-related. As a child Janet enjoyed drawing, but art was not particularly encouraged and she had other interests that commanded her attention. She attended the University of Tennessee and was a member of the Women's track team. While at UT Janet took a couple of drawing classes, which rekindled her interest in drawing. After college, Janet continued her education at the University Of Virginia School Of Law. She practiced law for a number of years, but always knew it was a poor career choice, unfulfilling on many levels. In 1993, Janet moved to Denver, Colorado and continued practicing law part-time until her third child was born. It was then that Janet, at a friend's suggestion, enrolled in an oil painting class with Colorado landscape artist, Brenda Hendrix, and soon she was hooked. She continued to paint and study painting sporadically until her children were older and she had more free time. Janet then studied painting with a number of respected teachers including Tim Deibler, Kevin Wechbach, Scott Christensen, Michael Lynch and Quang Ho. In 2008 Janet began to sell her paintings and pursue art as a career.
An avid outdoors-person, Janet is drawn to landscapes as her primary subject matter. She collects many of her reference photos from hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing and skiing trips. In recent years, Janet has significant time painting en plein air, enjoying the beauty of nature while pursuing her passion for painting.
Janet lives in Denver, Colorado. She is represented by Arts at Denver and The Framed Image, Denver, CO, and she also exhibits her work in juried shows in both local and national galleries.

A sixth generation Coloradan, Duke Beardsley has been drawing and painting the American West for as long as he can remember. Formally trained at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Duke and his family now live and work in Denver. Duke's work has been featured in Southwest Art Magazine, Western Art Collector, American Cowboy Magazine, Cowboys & Indians, Western Horseman, The Denver Post, Robb Report, Equestrian Magazine and Western Art & Architecture. In 2007 Duke's work was featured in Out West; The Great American Landscape, a groundbreaking traveling exhibition of Contemporary American Western Art that delighted audiences in museums across China. In 2008 Duke was honored as the select artist for the Colorado Governor's Art Award and he was the 2011 Artist of The Year as elected by the Foothills Art Center in Golden Colorado. Artist Statement: I grew up in the west, loving the vast and varied landscapes. As my father drove, I learned to be an artist. Seeing antelope & elk herds, passing clouds ,open spaces and erasing from my vision the things I did not like to see.

I love to paint from life. There are more than three dimensions available when painting live. It is truly thrilling to try to capture a precise moment in time.
The changing light, movement, smells and sounds of the environment are all in the final work of art. I see my work as a record of this time in our history and of my view of the west in which I live.

Mary Lou Blackledge began painting professionally 40 years ago while living in France. She specialized in highly-detailed architectural street scenes. In 1980, Blackledge returned to her home state of Colorado where she produced increasingly abstract landscapes and began experimenting with bold color harmonies. In 2000, she was invited to exhibit at the Biennial "Windows to the Divine" show, a significant opportunity which encouraged her to source her work from her imagination rather than from the physical world. In the last 20 years, Blackledge has created a large body of experimental and color-centric abstract paintings. She has had two solo exhibits in the last 10 years and has completed many significant commissioned works. She has studied under Homare Ikeda at the Art Student's League.

Mary Lou Blackledge's work has been collected internationally and in the United States. Her work is in several public collections and many private collections.

"At first glance, my work appears purely abstract - color, form and texture," Blackledge says. "But look again and you will discover many realist elements hidden within the composition: faces, figures, animals, landscape vignettes, and architectural elements. Lorenzo Chavez was born in New Mexico. His inherited connection to the colorful and historic Southwest as well as seeing the Taos Society of Artists works was the catalyst for his art career. He graduated with honors from the Colorado Institute of Art and continued his art education at the newly founded Arts Students League of Denver in 1987. Lorenzo and his wife Dolores currently live in Parker, Colorado.

Dolan Geiman is a nationally recognized mixed media artist creating collages, paintings, metal sculptures, and other 3D assemblages. Produced from vintage papers, salvaged wood, scrap metal, and other found materials, Geiman's tactile artwork emerges from a folk art tradition infused with a contemporary western style.

Born in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Dolan Geiman has been enthralled with the flora and fauna and iconic imagery of America's rich history since the days of youth & exploration. Working as a full-time artist since 2001, Geiman, along with his wife and partner Ali Marie, has achieved nationwide recognition through art fairs and commission work. Past clients and collections include Anthropologie, Fossil, New Balance, Pendleton, and YouTube as well as over 50 hotel and public collections nationwide. Geiman is based in Englewood, CO.

Energetic and passionate about her love for expression on canvas of the outdoors, Melinda Smith Haymons is inspired by color and the simple but complex act of transposing paint onto the palette and onto the canvas. She paints en plein air and is inspired by color and is fascinated with design. Whether Haymons is capturing a cloudscape in Wyoming, a seascape in Mexico, figures in the Italian sunlight or the endless possibilities of subjects that might grab her on any given day while working in the field, Haymons continues to be transfixed by light and shadow while mixing paint on her palette. With strong focus and devoted study, Haymons' enthusiasm and unfailing interest in fine paintings has been constant for as long as she can remember. As a young child, her parents exposed her to the arts with countless visits to Santa Fe and an education on The Taos Society of Artists and collecting fine paintings. Haymons truly has an appreciation for the foundation of a painting, application of design, color and, most importantly, drawing. She finds that drawing surely the substance of painting and uses her thumbnail sketches as preliminary studies for every painting. Haymons is a graduate of Colorado College where she met her husband, Chris. Her works are in private and corporate collections, she's been commissioned to paint the largest avocado ranch in California and was selected by Great Outdoors Colorado Trust to capture on canvas the group's most important-to-date legacy projects across Colorado. This project is ongoing and a notable historic collection for Colorado and marks the importance of preserving our beautiful open space. In addition to other interesting projects, Haymons has completed a series of paintings for The University of Denver's permanent collection. Recently, she has been commissioned to paint a series of minimalist landscape abstraction paintings which Haymons is delighted to be working on in her studio side by side with her plein air works from the field. Susie Hyer has been drawing and painting since she was a child. "I remember drawing a pair of ceramic flamingos my mother used to keep on her dining room table when I was four years old", she says. "I knew from that moment I would be an artist when I grew up."

Born Susan Lynn Hyer in 1954, and known by the moniker
Susiehyer, she was fortunate to have multiple art classes in
both primary and secondary public education. Attending
art programs at Moravian College, The Baum School of Art,
and the University of West Florida in the 1970's, she
continues to study and expand her repertoire and abilities,
attending the Art Students League of Denver and
participating in workshops whenever she can, with artists such as Quang Ho, Kim English, Ron Hicks, Jay Moore, and Kevin Weckback. In 2001 she also completed the Denver Botanical Gardens Certificate in Botanical Art and Illustration.

This award winning artist has been working professionally since 1976 and has been the recipient of a number of scholarships, grants, and awards for her work, including two international design awards. Her work has appeared in numerous galleries and national exhibitions, hangs in many private and corporate collections, and has been published in the celebrated books Art of the National Parks: Historical Connections, Contemporary Interpretations and Landscapes of Colorado. Susiehyer's work has also been featured in Southwest Art Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine, Art of the West Magazine, Plein Air Magazine, and on the covers of Art Life, Evergreen Living, and Mountain Country Life. Leon: Raised in the open ranch land of Northern New Mexico, Leon developed an affinity for the Southwestern landscape. After attending Aspen High School, he studied at the Colorado Institute of Art along with private studies. While stationed in Germany with the army, he was able to travel extensively throughout Europe, and studied painting techniques of the old masters for two years, finishing by copying a Franz Hals at the Stuttgart Stattsgalerie Art Museum. On his return to Colorado, Leon developed his intaglio techniques, selling prints in mountain galleries. In 1998, Leon purchased his first letterpress and received immediate success with the woodblock prints he produced. The layering of color in the woodblock process allows him to better capture the atmospheric qualities of the Southwestern Landscape that have such a strong meaning for him. Leon has continued to develop his printmaking skills and currently owns a publishing company, producing his Reduction Style Woodblocks as well as limited edition books. His woodblocks are exhibited nationally and collected by numerous museums.

Michael Lynch grew up in Denver, Colorado. He exhibited an interest in drawing at an early age and, through a family move to Chicago in the early sixties, he was introduced to the great variety of work at the Chicago Art Institute. Of particular interest was the work of the American and European realist and impressionist painters. His enthusiasm for traditional painting led to the discovery of more and more information on artists and the seemingly endless possibilities of artistic expression. The idea of pursuing a career as a professional artist began to emerge.

After receiving his college degree, Lynch moved to Washington D.C. where he lived and worked for three years, travelled extensively throughout the United States and abroad, and spent countless days in museums, galleries, and artist's studios. Returning to Denver in 1976, he had the great good fortune of becoming acquainted with the very serious group of painters and sculptors living and working in the area at that time. The group included Ned Jacob, Mark Daily, George Carlson, Len Chmiel, Ken Bunn, Hollis Williford, Bill Sharer, and Kang Cho...all consummate professionals in the art community. Lynch began his career as a full time artist in Denver in 1978.

Lynch's work, although primarily landscape also includes marine, portrait, figure, still life, and cityscape. His work is in many corporate and private collections throughout the U.S., Europe, and Japan and a number of his pieces were purchased for the U.S. Ambassador To The Netherlands residence in The Hague. He has had numerous one man shows throughout the country and has exhibited in and been represented by many fine galleries including John Pence, San Francisco, Gerald Peters, Santa Fe, and Fenn Gallery, Santa Fe.

Lynch has been a full member of the National Academy of Western Art, an A.O.A. Master / Artists Of America, Exhibitor at the Coors National Western Art Invitational ( Recipient of the 2012 Artist's Choice Award ), and Salon D' Arts Invitational. He continues to show at the annual Prix De West Exhibit at the National Cowboy Hall Of Fame in Oklahoma City. He was elected to membership in the Chelsea Arts Club, London in 1982. His work has appeared in many art publications including The American Artist ( cover ) , Southwest Art, American Art Review, and Art of The West.

He has taught workshops throughout the country since 1989 and has an extensive resume as a lecturer on and teacher of the practice of outdoor painting. He has also created hand crafted 22k water gilt picture frames for much of his own work and produced one of a kind custom frames for collectors of his commissioned pieces. His commissioned work includes a recent major piece for the Cherokee Club in Atlanta, Ga.

STATEMENT
I am always amazed at the power of words, and incorporate them in many paintings - sometimes the meaning is hidden, intentionally obscured. Color also plays a major role in my work, and I am very specific about the colors I choose - every shade evokes a different mood or memory. I love the 'look' of paint - I make it visible by layering and constructing the surface, using a palette knife or sponges (I rarely use a brush), abstracting the subject until it becomes a unique field of color, words and feeling. My art is both personal and subjective - the meaning derived by one's own experience.

Whether finished on site or created from study materials Parker employs color, pattern and the creation of space to allow the eye to move through the subject. Parker often imagines stepping into his own work and being able to walk within the 2-D confines. With memories of his life Parker looks ahead to the next work.

Currently working on groundbreakingly complex and painstakingly detailed block prints, Parker still manages to find time for explorations in drawing and painting. Prior to moving to Santa Fe from New York City the artist successfully completed the Gulf of Mexico Survey and the immense and record- breaking; National Park Project.

Parker has consistently mounted solo exhibits in Seattle, Chicago, Denver, and New Jersey, and has participated in group exhibits in Chicago, New York, Denver, Bozeman, Montana, and Marblehead, Massachusetts.

George Rentz has been painting and selling his work for over 30 years. At first he sold his work from his home in Cherry Hills and later in galleries, Rentz has collectors in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, Vermont, Maine and South Carolina. His works are in water media, including watercolor, casein, goache and acrylic. Rentz is a 4th generation Coloradan, a graduate of Denver Country Day (now Kent Denver School) and the University of Denver, where he captained the lacrosse team. He still lives in the Village with his wife, Cyn, and their two Labrador retrievers.

Kathy Marsh Riedinger lives and paints in Sun Valley, Idaho and Denver, CO. She has studied extensively with Jill Carver, Skip Whitcomb, Kathryn Stats, Michael Lynch, G. Russell Case, Quang Ho and many other great artists/teachers. In 2009, Kathryn's family moved to Paris and traveled extensively, visiting many museums all over Europe and studying the great works of art. This experience changed the direction and focus of Kathryn's art to a more impressionistic style. In 2014, Kathryn teamed up with Wood River Fine Arts to organize advanced painting workshops for top instructors including Skip Whitcomb, Jill Carver, G. Russell Case, Michael Lynch and Kathryn Stats.

In 2016, she was chosen to be Show Chair for the American Impressionist Society National Juried Exhibition at Howard Mandville Gallery, Kirkland, WA.

In 2018, Kathryn won an Award of Excellence at the Oil Painters of America National Exhibition and will be exhibiting at the American Impressionist Society Juried Exhibition in Door County, WI. She is the guest artist is two workshops with Lori McNee in Giverny, France and Tuscany, Italy in the Fall 2018.

Kathryn divides her time between Idaho and Colorado, painting, teaching, organizing workshops and, most of all, being a mom and wife to Gray, Paige, Patrick and Kirk.

Virginia was born and raised in the Southern Andes of Peru.
Thirteen years ago she arrived in CO as a Katrina transplant from LSU, where she was attending graduate school, for Printmaking .

She made her home and started a family at the foot of the Rockies. She has worked in the Arts for the past 18 years, assisting and learning from other professional artists, as she continues to expand and develop her own creative practice.

Currently works managing Duke Beardsley's studio, The Dark Horse Press Printshop, and is currently involved in developing a few projects with the Denver Art Museum.

She has an amazing 10 Year old son, and equally artistic loving partner, and two cute but not so smart dogs.

Growing up in Cherry Hills Village, CO Dancy Gould St. John has been interested in the natural world for as long as she can remember. She spent her childhood with her siblings, dogs and horses, exploring the, then, undeveloped fields, trails and the Highline Canal. Watching the weather roll in from the west over the Rocky Mountains instilled a love for the sky's drama. Plein air painting, along with fly fishing, hiking and skiing, has proved to be the perfect expression for her affinity to the outdoors. She and her family live in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Dancy received her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in 1986. Shortly thereafter she studied at the Day Studio in San Francisco and went on to. pursued a career in faux finishing and mural painting. She worked for architects, designers, interior decorators and numerous private clients until the late 90's. All the while she was taking as many plein air workshops and private classes as she could fit in. She took classes from John Encinias, Kim Mackey and Steve Elliot, and she attended the annual seminars by the prestigious Plein Air Painters of America. She has studied under and been influenced most notably by Jean Perry, Stan Sampson, Linda Tippets and Kevin McPherson from that group among many others. She also attended the Art Students League of Denver where she studied under Quang Ho and Doug Dawson. Her background in faux finishing has translated to her smaller paintings, in that she employs the layering of color and glazing in her paintings. While she is still as interested in painting grand vistas as she was when she was mural painting, the challenge is for her smaller work to have a more intimate feel than her large scale murals do.

Her work has been exhibited and sold at a number of private shows in Colorado, at the Artists' Gallery of Steamboat, the Kent Denver School, Pirate Gallery, the Art Depot in Steamboat Springs, the Center for Visual Arts in Steamboat, and a number of art fairs sponsored by the Steamboat Springs Arts Council. Her work has been published in the Rocky Mountain News and Colorado Expressions Magazine, The Steamboat Pilot and Today and At Home Magazine. She was a founding member and co-owner of the Artists' Gallery of Steamboat, along with 23 other talented local artists. Dancy was also the Exhibit Director and curator of the gallery for it's first 4 years. The gallery was voted "Business of the Year" by Mainstreet Steamboat in 2007 and "Best of the Boat" Gallery. For the last 7 years Dancy has been the Grant Writer and an Exhibits Director at The Steamboat Art Museum, seeing them through a $1M Capital Expansion and into a new era of exciting Creative District growth for Steamboat Springs.

Dancy considers her two young sons to be her first true masterpieces, and her family the greatest reason to keep learning and striving as a painter.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Betsy Johnson Welty was born and raised in Denver. She attended Occidental College, graduating with honors and a B.A. in Fine Art with a focus in painting. To help pay the bills, she was editorial cartoonist and graphic designer for the campus newspaper and art directed campus publications after graduation. She returned to Denver to pursue a career

in graphic design and opened her own studio, garnering numerous design honors and awards, including a Colorado Governor's Citation.

Welty's love of painting never left her, and she has continued to develop her fine art, studying at the Art Students League of Denver and with artists Kevin Weckbach, SusieHyer, Mark Daily and Jordan Wolfson. She paints both en plein air and in the studio, in watercolor and oil. Her award-winning fine art has appeared in state and national juried shows as well as at Framed Image Gallery in Denver, Lone Tree Fine Arts Center, Curtis Center for the Arts, Main Street Fine Art Gallery, Evergreen, CO and Denver Central Library Vida Ellison Gallery. She works in both oil and watercolor, in the studio and en plein air. She is inspired by the landscape of Colorado and the West.
