Artist Bio: Deborah Bay specializes in constructed studio photography and has exhibited throughout the United States, most recently at Photoville Brooklyn and Texas Contemporary 2018. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Dorsky Museum of Art at State University of New York at New Paltz. Her images have also been featured in various publications.

Artist Statement: The Traveling Light series brings together an eclectic set of influences, ranging from the geometries of constructivism to color field. After collecting an assortment of prisms and lenses, I became interested in investigating how light and color traveled across them.

Artist Bio: Alyson Belcher is a fine art photographer based in Oregon and California. Her work was selected as an editor's pick in the Lensculture Art Photography Awards, 2018. She was also a winner in Life Framer's 2018 "Face of the Earth" competition. Alyson is represented by the Andra Norris Gallery in Burlingame, CA.

Artist Statement: Ice Portals is a series of photographs of ice formations I discovered in the landscape during the unusually cold winter of 2017 in Bend, Oregon.

Artist Bio: Adam Bellefeuil (b. Detroit 1981) attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh before starting a career as a Video Game Designer. For twelve years he has worked with Epic Games in North Carolina on titles such as Fortnite, Paragon, and Gears of War. Most Sunday mornings you'll find him exploring the state with a 6" x 7" camera and black and white film.

Artist Statement: Made in the early morning light of October 2015, this image is part of an ongoing personal survey of the landscape of my home state of North Carolina.

Artist Bio: Dan Burkholder is known for looking over photography's horizon to discover dynamic new ways to capture and express the photographic image. In the early 1990s Dan wrote the groundbreaking Making Digital Negatives for Contact Printing, opening doors for legions of image-makers wishing to combine the precision of digital imaging with the warmth and charm of the handmade print.

Artist Statement: Every once in a while--and certainly not often enough--the gods of humanity, composition, and gesture all unite. I'm just glad I had a camera with me.

Artist Bio: Clyde Butcher has traveled extensively across the United States and abroad to capture the diversity, dignity, and beauty of nature on film for more than 50 years. His extensive body of work has been assembled into four stunning collections which are recognized and exhibited in museums nationally and around the world.

Artist Statement: When we arrived at Angel Oak Park I was stunned by the size and beauty of the tree. Old trees have an energy surrounding them and the energy surrounding this one was very strong and peaceful.

Artist Bio: Aaron Canipe is an artist and designer living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He earned his MFA in Experimental & Documentary Arts from Duke University in 2015. Canipe's work revolves around what it means to struggle with the loss of innocence and beauty in the South today. His photographs and books have been exhibited throughout the region.

Artist Bio: Carl Chiarenza, born in 1937 in Rochester, NY, received an AAS (1955) and a BFA (1957) from Rochester Institute of Technology, a MS (1959) and AM (1964) from Boston University, and a PhD from Harvard University in 1973. He has lectured and taught workshops at over 100 institutions in 33 states since 1966, and produced a variety of monographs.

Artist Statement: My commitment is to the exploration of how little we know as compared to how much we think we know; and to how little we know as compared to how much we feel.

Artist Bio: Donna De Cesare is the recipient of the Maria Moors Cabot Award for Journalism enhancing Inter-American understanding, the CDS Dorothea Lange Prize, and the Mother Jones photography award, among many others. Her acclaimed book Unsettled/Desasosiego explores the spread of U.S. gangs in Central America. Her work appears in exhibitions and is included in major museum collections. She teaches visual journalism at the University of Texas at Austin.

Artist Statement: LA protest over the 1994 ballot initiative Prop 187 marked hardening attitudes towards immigrants and sought to deny them undocumented access to public healthcare or education.

Artist Bio: Raymond Grubb is a photographer raised and living in North Carolina. He was born in Tennessee and educated at Davidson College in North Carolina and Universite Paul Valéry in Montpellier, France. Most of his work is produced as platinum palladium and copperplate photogravure prints. The North Carolina Museum of Art has acquired three of his platinum palladium prints for their permanent collection. Raymond is represented by SOCO Gallery.

Artist Statement: While walking along the streets of Condesa with fragments of native flora held between my fingers, I stopped to shoot this self-portrait under a lamp post.

Bio: Clyde Heppner is a fine art photographer who focuses on depicting the landscape. His lifetime interest in Eastern art greatly influences how he configures the environment for the viewer. Heppner has been included in several exhibits at venues such as the Center for Fine Art Photography and the San Francisco International Exhibition. His recent portfolio, The Ancients' Views, was featured in a solo exhibit at the Griffin Museum of Photography.

Artist Statement: "The Descent" is from the The Ancients' Views series consisting of compositions from the Chinese gardens of Suzhou and the Huangshan Mountains in China. These locations often inspired Chinese master painters.

Bio: Hillerbrand+Magsamen are interdisciplinary artists whose work playfully critiques consumerism and family life with an experimental approach and often includes their children, Madeleine and Emmett. Their work is exhibited internationally. Honors include grants from Sustainable Arts Foundation, Mid-America Arts Alliance, and residences with Santa Fe Art Institute and the Rauschenberg Residency in Captiva.

Artist Statement: The Devices project transforms everyday objects into new tools to help with daily challenges.

Bio: Susan Hillyard has exhibited nationally and internationally and been awarded eight artist residencies in the United States and abroad. She has travelled around the United States and France to capture images of birds and wild horses. She most recently had an image accepted into an exhibit at the Photo Place gallery juried by Elizabeth Avedon.

Artist Statement: This stunning image of an egret in breeding plumage was taken at Gatorland in Florida in 2016.

Artist Bio: Aspen Hochhalter was born and raised in Colorado. She received her MFA in Photo-Based Media at ECU in Greenville, NC, and her BFA in Photography from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. She is an Associate Professor of Art and the Photography Area Coordinator in the Department of Art & Art History at UNC Charlotte.

Artist Statement: Currently, I am printing my Instagram feed with a technique that is unconventional, time-consuming, and yet playful, ultimately creating these hand-crafted and uniquely one-of-a-kind digital/chemical hybrid photographs.

Bio: Originally from the UK, Sal Taylor Kydd earned her BA in Modern Languages from Manchester University and MFA in Photography from Maine Media College. Her photographs have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including Portland, Boston, Los Angeles, Mexico, and Spain. Kydd is also a writer and poet, and has self-published a number of books combining her poetry with her photographs.

Artist Statement: This piece is from my series Origins, which explores the fleeting nature of childhood and our relationship to the natural world.

Artist Bio: Bryce Lankard has served as an editorial and fine art photographer, as an Art Director, Photo Editor, Educator, Curator, and Principal Photographer, from New Orleans to New York City and back to North Carolina. He is a co-founder and the executive director of the Click! Photography Festival and a veteran instructor at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. His exhibition Dead Reckoning will appear at The Light Factory in early 2020.

Artist Statement: "Two French Quarter Tap Dancers" is from Bryce Lankard's Land of Dreams project. This actual framed print was first exhibited at Le Mieux Gallery in New Orleans in 1992 in the Salon des Refuses exhibit.

Artist Bio: Delilah Montoya, a professor in the Katherine G. McGovern College of the Arts at UH, investigates cultural phenomena, addressing and confronting viewers' assumptions. Montoya's artwork has traveled with the ICP exhibition Only Skin Deep: Changing Visions of the American Self and Arte Latino: Treasures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She received the Artadia Award and was honored with the Richard T. Castro Distinguished Visiting Professorship.

Artist Statement: "Jackie Chavez" is from Women Boxers: The New Warriors, an exhibition and book publication, shown in Los Angeles, Santa Fe, Dallas, and in NYC at MoMA PS1. The exhibition was reviewed in Art in America.

Artist Bio: Dan Nelken is a New York-based photographer who throughout his career has pursued long-term projects centered on individuals or groups that exist on the cusp of mainstream American culture. His work is in the collections of the International Center of Photography, New York; The Portland Art Museum, Portland; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; The Center for Photography at Woodstock, NY; and Beth Hatefutsoth Museum, Jerusalem, Israel.

Artist Bio: Ryuijie has steadfastly pursued his own photographic vision for over 30 years, and has acquired a reputation for his exquisite platinum/palladium prints, in addition to his traditional black and white work. An exceptionally prolific artist, Ryuijie's career has been highlighted by a multitude of exhibitions. His work has appeared in View Camera, Photovision, Camera and Darkroom, Black & White, Lenswork, and Focus magazines.

Artist Bio: Diana Schoenfeld, author/curator of Symbol and Surrogate: The Picture Within, is committed to creative photography, including its therapeutic value. Exhibited, published, and collected internationally since the 1970s, including Berlin Foto Biennale, San Francisco MOMA, Center for Creative Photography, Barrow Neurological Institute, and Princeton. Awards include NEA Emerging Artist Fellowship, Reva and David Award, and numerous university teaching appointments.

Artist Bio: Dustin Lee Shores is based in Charlotte, NC. His recent photographic work of family, love, and loss addresses the social and economic systems in which we endure. He was born in 1983 and grew up in the rolling foothills of North Carolina. He received his BFA in Fine Arts Photography from Winthrop University in 2009 and completed his MFA in Photography from The University of Arizona in 2018.

Artist Statement: "Untitled" (Mission San Xavier Del Bac, Tucson, AZ) from the series The Blue-Gray (2016) was made in and en route to seven different locations in and near the Sonoran Desert, which is divided by the U.S./Mexico Border.

Artist Bio: Mariana Vieira is a Brazilian artist based in Colorado. She received her MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder. She is the 2019 recipient of the Denis Roussel Award through the Center for Fine Art Photography. She was the guest editor for the Lenscratch States Project feature of Colorado.

Artist Statement: Make Belief reflects on the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq under the pretense of national security and the narrative that glamorizes war in the name of freedom.

Artist Bio: Born in Salt Lake City and raised in Los Angeles, Todd Walker was a highly successful commercial photographer in the late 1950s, a career he later gave up to pursue his personal artistic interests. Walker began using "alternative processes" in the 1960s, developing a unique and personal visual language that runs through the last three decades of his work.

Artist Statement: Image is from a black and white negative. Values were extracted with colors assigned to each grey tone. It is not a reproduction but an original artwork done by the artist on his press.

Artist Bio: Geoff Winningham studied photography with Aaron Siskind and Arthur Siegel at the Institute of Design. In 1969, he joined the art department at Rice University where he continues to teach today. Over a career that spans nearly 50 years, he has received two fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, five grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, and numerous commissions.

Artist Statement: "Syl's World Famous" was taken in the summer of 1988 in the small town of Earth in the Texas Panhandle. The photograph was made with an 8" x 10" view camera on color negative film.

Artist Bio: Joe C. Aker is an internationally recognized artist and architectural photographer. He graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Photography. His artwork has been exhibited in solo and group shows across the United States. His work is in the permanent collection of the MFAH and many corporate and private collections, including a recent photographic sculpture for the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Artist Statement: The original image was photographed in the desert west of El Paso, Texas. It was first printed in 2007.

Artist Bio: Cara Barer was born in 1956 in Freeport, TX. She is currently living and working in Houston, Texas. Artist Statement: I transform books into art by sculpting them, dyeing them, and then through the medium of photography, presenting them anew as objects of beauty. I create a record of that book and its half-life.

Artist Bio: Alessandro Bo (b. Mexico City, 1982) studied photography at TAFE Queensland Institute, Australia. His work has been shown in Mexico, the United States, the Dominican Republic, and Australia. He also participated in the 18th Encuentro Nacional de Fototecas 2017, organized by the INAH, and he was a finalist for the RM Latin American Photobook Award in 2013. He received the PDN Street Photography Award in 2015.

Artist Statement: The Smail series is a collection of archival photographs around the arrival of foreigners in the city of San Miguel de Allende between the years 1950-1980, as well as original photographs captured by the author.

Artist Bio: Ana Casas Broda is a Mexican photographer known for Kinderwunsch, which was recognized as the best edited art book of 2014 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports in Spain. Her photographs were featured in the Exposed/Espuesta exhibition at The Light Factory in 2017. Broda curated an exhibition in Mexico City in 2019 that featured work by Carolyn DeMeritt and Pinky/MM Bass.

Artist Bio: Jeff Brouws, born in San Francisco in 1955, is a self-taught artist. Pursuing photography since age 13, where he roamed the railroad and industrial corridors of the South Bay Peninsula, Brouws has compiled a visual survey of America's evolving rural, urban, and suburban cultural landscapes. Using photographs as subtle narrative and compiling typologies to index the nation's character, he revels in the "readymades" found in these environments.

Artist Bio: Mexican photographer Alejandro Cartagena lives and works in Monterrey, Mexico. His projects employ landscape and portraiture as a means to examine social, urban, and environmental issues. Cartagena's work has been exhibited internationally in more than 50 group and individual exhibitions. His work is in many museum collections, including the San Francisco MOMA, the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, the Portland Museum of Art, and more.

Artist Statement: Cartagena has received several awards, including the international Photolucida Critical Mass Book Award, the Street Photography Award in London Photo Festival, the Lente Latino Award in Chile, and the Premio IILA-FotoGrafia Award in Rome.

Artist Bio: Tom Chambers is represented by six galleries in the United States and Europe. Since 1998 his images from eight photographic series have been shown nationally and internationally through 20 solo shows and over 70 group exhibitions, as well as in a wide range of print and online publications. Artist Bio: scott b. davis works with large wooden cameras and makes hand-coated platinum palladium prints. His work has been exhibited worldwide and is found in museums, including the J. Paul Getty Museum, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Eastman Museum, and other prominent collections.

Artist Statement: This early night work from the year 2000 was made in homage to Timothy O'Sullivan, whose name can be found carved into the base of Inscription Rock, when his 1873 photograph of the monolith was made.

Artist Bio: Benjamin Dimmitt graduated from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL, and studied at the International Center of Photography. He has taught at International Center of Photography, Warren Wilson College, and Penland School of Craft. His work was exhibited at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, International Center of Photography, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Griffin Museum, and Southeast Museum of Photography, among many others.

Artist Statement: This project explores the impact of climate change and resource mismanagement on a fragile spring-fed estuary on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Winter morning fog obscures the saltwater damage.

Artist Bio: Ralph Gibson (American, b. 1939) is a respected photographer known for his contrasting imagery and erotic subject matter. Gibson was born in Los Angeles, CA, and studied photography while in the U.S. Navy. He later attended the San Francisco Art Institute and worked as an assistant to Robert Frank and Dorothea Lange. Gibson has worked primarily with a Leica camera since the beginning of his career.

Artist Statement: From artsy.net: "In Gibson's high contrast black and white works, shadows often play a dynamic and even focal role."

Artist Bio: Maya Goded's photographs have been exhibited in the United States, Latin America, Europe, China, and Africa. Solo exhibits of her work have also been staged by some of the world's most prestigious museums and photography festivals and she has received many prestigious awards and grants, such as: Mother Jones Fund (San Francisco); the Eugene Smith and J. Simon Guggenheim, Memorial Foundation (New York); and others.

Artist Statement: Goded depicts people in difficult situations, whether it's the valiant among us whose refusal to conform constitutes a threat to established norms, or the vulnerable, whose lives are misshapen by the notions of power and control.

Artist Bio: Carol Golemboski has received grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and the Saltonstall Foundation. Her photographs can be found in the collections of the George Eastman Museum, the Denver Art Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. She is a Professor of Photography at the University of Colorado Denver.

Artist Statement: "Trap Door" is a part of a series of manipulated gelatin silver prints that uses magic as a metaphor to suggest the wonder and mystery of darkroom photography.

Artist Bio: Graciela Iturbide was drawn to the art of still photography as practiced by the Mexican modernist master Manuel Alvarez Bravo. She has enjoyed solo exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou (1982), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (1990), Philadelphia Museum of Art (1997), Paul Getty Museum (2007), MAPFRE Foudation, Madrid (2009), Photography Museum Winterthur (2009), and Barbican Art Gallery (2012), amongst others.

Artist Statement: In 1979 Iturbide was invited by Francisco Toledo to photograph the Juchitán people who form part of the Zapotec culture native to Oaxaca in southern Mexico. This resulted in the publication of Juchitán de las Mujeres.

Bio: Kent Krugh is a fine art photographer living and working in Cincinnati. His work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions both national and international and in major festivals including FotoFest (Houston) and the Festival de la Luz (Buenos Aires). His work is held in various collections, including the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Portland Art Museum, and the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Artist Statement: These tree portraits are composites, and by virtue of the process, can be considered "inverse panoramas." I circumambulate each tree, making many combined images of it through 360 degrees.

Bio: Eric T. Kunsman (b. 1975) was born and raised in Bethlehem, PA. While in high school, he was heavily influenced by the death of the steel industry and its place in American history. Currently, he is a photographer and book artist based out of Rochester, NY. Eric is a Lecturer at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Artist Bio: Bill Owens was born in San Jose, CA, on Sept. 25, 1938. Owens, with his cameras, is known as the foremost chronicler of Suburbia, made famous with the publication of his book by that name in 1972. Owens worked several years as a photojournalist, publishing a series of books.

Artist Bio: Tom Rankin is Professor of the Practice of Art and Documentary, Director of the MFA in Experimental and Documentary Arts at Duke University, and former Director of the Center for Documentary Studies. His writings have been published widely in numerous magazines, journals, and books and his photographs are included in numerous private and museum collections.

Artist Statement: This print is from the Sacred Space series in which I have photographed this same church throughout the last 20 years.

Artist Bio: Saul Robbins is interested in the ways people interact within their surroundings and psychological dynamics of intimacy. His photographs are motivated by observations of human behavior and personal history, especially related to loss, unity, failure, and the latent potential residing in personal history and traditional photographic materials. Artist Bio: Oswaldo Ruiz (b. Monterrey, Mexico, 1977) received a Master of Fine Arts degree by Central Saint Martins College in London. He was the studio assistant of Graciela Iturbide. He has a dozen solo exhibitions and over fifty group shows. His awards include the First prize of the Photography Biennial of Centro de la Imagen (2018), and the Petrobras-Buenos Aires Photo Prize (2006).

Artist Statement: Named after a short story by Juan Rulfo, this series depicts a former territory of farmers in central Jalisco in Mexico that now is being surrounded by international enterprises that exploit the land and its inhabitants. Here a long-lived cactus known as Pitaya is found inside the facilities of a Monsanto experimental laboratory.

Artist Bio: Linda Rutenberg has worked as a fine art photographer for over 30 years. She has a BFA in film and music and an MFA in Photography from Concordia University in Montreal Quebec. She teaches, lectures, and creates photographic series, which evolve into books and exhibitions. She has published over fifteen publications. Her fine art work has been exhibited internationally.

Artist Bio: Traer Scott is an award-winning photographer and best-selling author of ten books, including Shelter Dogs (2006), Finding Home: Shelter Dogs and Their Stories (2015), City of Dogs (2018), and Radiant: Farm Animals Up Close and Personal (2018). Specializing in animal photography, the human/animal bond, and conservation-themed fine art photography, Scott's work has been exhibited around the world and has appeared in various publications.

Artist Statement: Dutch is one of 50 shelter dogs featured in my book Finding Home: Shelter Dogs and Their Stories. Dutch was adopted and returned several times before finding her home.

Artist Bio: Sara Silks had a solo show in New York at the Soho Photo Gallery in October of 2017. She was a finalist in Critical Mass and the international winner in two categories of the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards.

Artist Statement: "Natsukashii" is a Japanese word for the state of "feeling nostalgic" or "fond/sweet memory." I have been interested in the idea of creating calmness and silence in my work.

Artist Bio: Vaughn Sills' work has been shown in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and is in collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, DeCordova Museum, and the Harvard Art Museum. Her photographs have earned her a number of awards, and two books of her work have been published: Places for the Spirit: Traditional African American Gardens and One Family.

Artist Bio: Paul Strand was an American photographer and filmmaker who, along with fellow modernist photographers like Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Weston, helped establish photography as an art form in the 20th century. His diverse body of work, spanning six decades, covers numerous genres and subjects throughout the Americas, Europe, and Africa. This photogravure edition of Strand's Mexico work celebrates the subjects' pride, dignity, and endurance.

Artist Statement: Gravures were pulled at the Andersen Lamb Company by Albert DeLong under Strand's direct supervision.

Artist Bio: Ken Van Sickle (b. 1932, American) was always a curious explorer of new technologies. Growing up in Brunswick, New York, he was intrigued by new gadgets introduced in the early 20th century, including a stop-motion camera which he owned at the age of seven. His retrospective photography portrays romantic, evanescent moments in New York and Paris during the 1950s.

Artist Bio: Born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, Hiroshi Watanabe graduated from the Department of Photography of Nihon University in 1975. After producing five self-published books, his first collection to be published conventionally was I See Angels Every Day, which won Japan's 2007 Photo City Sagamihara Award. He has won multiple other awards, published numerous monographs, and his work is held in a variety of collections.

Artist Statement: About the Love Point series: "After I photographed the dolls, I photographed real human models dressed similarly. I wanted to puzzle and confuse what is real and what is not."

Artist Bio: Jeffrey Wolin is Halls Professor Emeritus of Photography at Indiana University. Wolin's photographs have been shown at museums in the U.S. and abroad. His photographs are in numerous museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art; LA County Museum of Art; and others. Wolin is recipient of two Visual Artist Fellowships from the NEA and a Guggenheim Fellowship.

Artist Statement: "Stevie" was originally made in 1988 at Bloomington's Pigeon Hill housing projects. I returned recently to find and rephotograph the original subjects for my book/exhibition, Pigeon Hill: Then & Now.

Artist Bio: Gesche Würfel's work has been exhibited, published, and awarded internationally. Würfel is the author of Basement Sanctuaries. She was named as the Juror's Pick for the LensCulture Emerging Talent Awards 2016, is a finalist in the 2017 and 2018 Lange-Taylor Award, and a Top 50 Critical Mass 2017 winner. Collecting institutions are the MIT Museum, MA, and the Portland Museum of Art, OR (USA).

Artist Statement: Basement Sanctuaries explores the ways in which superintendents decorate basements of apartment buildings in Northern Manhattan by illuminating the process of migrant adaptation to the metropolis.
