"The Slugger", Michael Jack Schmidt, issued in 1990, is a 32" x 22" serigraph numbered 249/300 in mint condition and flawlessly signed in pencil in lower margin by Mike Schmidt and famous sports artist LeRoy Neiman. Using vibrant colors, Neiman depicted famous athletes and sporting events. A prolific painter, Neiman is celebrated for his dramatic, lively work.

This modern classic, issued the year following Schmidt's retirement from the game in 1989, is widely recognized as the premier Schmidt signed display piece. Schmidt is considered by many to be the greatest third baseman in baseball history. In addition to 10 Gold Glove Awards, Schmidt also garnered 3 MVP Awards and is one of only 23 players to hit 500 or more home runs. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1995 and was later named to Baseball's prestigious All-Century Team in 1999.

Miriam Singer grew up in Buffalo, New York, In 2000 she received her BA in Sociology and Studio Art from Brandeis University, and in 2003 her MFA in Painting from Massachusetts College of Art. Since moving to Philadelphia in 2004, she has exhibited at numerous galleries. She is in a three-person upcoming show at Paradigms Gallery in November, 2019. Singer uses a combination of printmaking and drawing media to create her unique works on paper and designs for public art projects.

Recent public art projects include, River to River with Emilie Ledieu, 2018 a large glass mosaic in the Comcast Technology Center cafeteria.

Projects with The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program include; Navy Yard Bus Wraps, 2018, Parkway Dreams, 2017, Southeast by Southeast, 2013, Under The Clothespin with Emilie Ledieu, 2012, and Take Me to the River, 2010. Singer's accumulated imagery becomes layered and busy with impressions of the cityscape. My oil painting, "What Is A Man Anyhow?" is in honor of Walt Whitman's 200th birthday and is Inspired by the poem, "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman. My interpretation of the poem, "Song of Myself" reflects Whitmans's views on the inequity of life in America during his time. Whitman communicates his torment and thoughts on mankind and the contradictions of democracy in the late 1800s. His words from the 1800s are as relevant then as they are today in the 2000s. For my painting, I used an excerpt from Section 20 of the 1892 version of "Song of Myself." The torment of the poem is reflected in the subject of the painting's facial expression as well as his gesture. And I loved the verse - "I will wear my hat as I please."

LightFlower, designed to mimic a sunflower, is a 3D printed vase with laser-cut and heat-formed acrylic petals that illuminate with a gentle press of one of the six green leaves.

I chose a playful natural motif of a translucent green upper with frosted yellow petal rings.

It holds 16 oz of water and is rechargeable on its magnetic charging base. The upper stem separates from the illuminating base to make refilling with water easy. It has a USB charging port on its underside, taking advantage of LightFlower's 16,000 mAh battery and making it perfect for a bedside or coffee table.

George Crumb, composer, will autograph an Agnus Dei (Peace Symbol) Poster, printed on 100 lb. glossy stock paper, obtained from Edition Peters USA.

In support of Make-A-Wish, Orchestra 2001 donates this C.F. Peters reproduction of a hand-drawn musical score for Agnus Dei created by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer George Crumb. Agnus Dei, meaning 'lamb of God,' represents the goat sign Capricorn, and the original score for this musical work was painstakingly hand-drawn by Crumb to look like a peace symbol. George Crumb will personally autograph the donated poster in conjunction with Orchestra 2001's performance of his 2003 master-work, The River of Life, on Friday, September 20th at 7:30 pm, at Cherry Street Pier. This concert is free and open to the public.

The seven volumes of George Crumb's American Songbooks were written for, dedicated to, premiered and recorded first by Orchestra 2001 as it emerged from Mr. Crumb's suburban Philadelphia studio over a period of a decade. There are few examples in modern classical music in which a composer of such stature has written so much music for a specific ensemble. We believe this cycle to be one of the most unique and beautiful celebrations of America's folk heritage any artist has ever conceived. We hope you will return to the Pier tomorrow for this incredible concert!
