A dark, implosive wine, the 2005 Opus One comes across as brooding and very much closed in on itself. Tar, graphite, menthol, licorice and plums inform the powerful, structured finish. This is the most massive, tannic Opus One in recent memory. The blend is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec.
Opus One was founded as a joint venture between Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, and in 1984 released its first vintage, the 1979. It has since become an international success and a landmark winery in Napa. Comprised of 169 acres of vineyards in Napa Valley, they produce a luxury Bordeaux-style blend.
2008 Caymus Vineyards Special Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
94 - Wine Spectator
Beautifully crafted, rich, intense and powerful, yet supple, graceful and polished, mind-blowing on the nose with sweet tobacco, chocolate, cedar, cigar box, and licorice, with a generous core of spicy blackberry, wild berry and light cedary notes. Full-bodied and round with a bright and velvety tannin structure. Starts off slow, but then flies away. This is fabulous. Intense finish.
2016 Orin Swift Cellars Mercury Head Cabernet Sauvignon.
The wine is introduced with rich primary aromatics of cassis, blueberry and black cherry, complemented with hints of lavender, chaparral and sandalwood. The entry is brawny with ripe blackberry and boysenberry that transitions to a nuanced mid-palate of dark toffee and espresso bean. Integrated tannins that will soften over time lead a finish of soft rhubarb and licorice.
Orin Swift Cellars winemaker, Dave Phinney, is well-know for his Prisoner Zinfandel. He also makes this fantastic, rare Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley - very limited.
2013 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley
The 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is dark ruby in color and entices you with a nose of raspberry, cassis and loose pipe tobacco. This full-bodied wine has an assertively silky structure and is notably spicy on the palate. Flavors of sage and blackberry mark the wine's entry. The strong acidity in the mid-palate is followed by a lingering finish. Given proper cellaring, this wine will provide drinking pleasure through 2038.
The 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is comprised of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.
