In the legacy of the late Dian Fossey, Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka has become one of the leading conservationists and scientists working to save the critically endangered mountain gorillas of East Africa. She is founder and Chief Executive Officer of Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH), a 14-year old nonprofit organization that promotes conservation by improving the quality of life of people and wildlife to enable them to coexist in and around protected areas in Africa. She became an Ashoka Fellow in 2007 for merging Uganda's wildlife management and rural public health programs to create common resources for both people and animals.

Gorilla Conservation Coffee (GCCoffee) is a social enterprise created through a partnership between CTPH and Worldwide Fund for Nature Switzerland. GCCoffee pays a premium price to enable marginalized small-holder coffee farmers living in remote sub counties bordering Bwindi Impenetrable National Park improve their lives, which in turn helps to protect the gorillas and their habitat.

You and 5 friends will get an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the dinosaur fossil collections held by the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) and the special exhibit T.rex: the Ultimate Predator with Bolortsetseg Minjin, PhD. Dr. Bolortsetseg is a Mongolian paleontologist, AMNH Research Associate, National Geographic Emerging Explorer, and WINGS WorldQuest Fellow.

Dr. Bolortsetseg will share her experiences working with AMNH expeditions to Mongolia and the fossils they collected. During your visit of the special exhibit T.rex: the Ultimate Predator, you will learn about the latest discoveries concerning T. rex as well as its close relative from Mongolia, Tarbosaurus bataar.

Your tour will last approximately 2 hours and will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time on a Thursday or Friday from October 2019 through April 2020. Tours cannot be scheduled on holidays.

Dr. Bolortsetseg is the founder of the Institute for the Study of Mongolian Dinosaurs, which has launched expeditions that have discovered numerous fossil species, has sponsored and trained Mongolian graduate students, and has inspired children in the remote Gobi Desert through on-site educational programs.

In 2012 she played a pivotal role in stopping the sale of an illegally collected skeleton of Tyrannosaur baatar from Mongolia, and coordinated the repatriation and shipment of this unique specimen. This eventually led to the discovery of vast network of fossil poaching in Mongolia and the recovery of many more specimens.

In 2012 she returned to Mongolia to help establish the Central Museum of Mongolian Dinosaurs where the Tyrannosaurus baatar specimen was displayed and welcomed home with great excitement. In 2013, she was awarded a Polar Star by the Mongolian Government for her efforts to protect the fossil heritage of Mongolia.

Eleanor Sterling, PhD, Chief Conservation Scientist at the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation at the American Museum of Natural History and recipient of the 2018 Women of Discovery Humanity Award, will take your group of up to 10 people on a private tour of the Hall of Biodiversity and Hall of Ocean Life at AMNH, with an insider's view and perspective of how the exhibits were developed and designed.

After your tour, you and your guests can explore the museum and all special exhibitions, as well as see the Space Show and Giant-Screen film.

You can schedule your tour for a mutually agreeable date and time on any Tuesday through Thursday during the museum's regular hours. No holidays.

Dr. Sterling has interdisciplinary training in biological and social sciences and over 30 years of field research and community outreach experience with direct application to biodiversity conservation in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Oceania.

WINGS Fellow Marla Spivak will take your group of up to six people on a tour of the Bee Lab at the University of Minnesota Bee Research Facility at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul, Minnesota. Your tour should be scheduled at a mutually agreeable time between mid-May and the end of August (for optimal bee observation) in 2019 or 2020 and will last 2 to 3 hours.

The Bee Lab's mission is to promote the conservation, health, and diversity of all bee pollinators through research, education, and hands-on mentorship. On the tour you will experience both wild and managed bees, including native bee collections and live honey bee colonies, and will walk through our landscaping for pollinators.

Marla Spivak is a MacArthur Fellow and McKnight Distinguished Professor in Entomology at the University of Minnesota. Recent awards include the 2015 Minnesota AgriGrowth Distinguished Service Award, the 2016 Siehl Prize laureate for excellence in agriculture, and the 2016 Wings WorldQuest Women of Discovery Earth Award. She and Gary Reuter bred a line of honey bees, the Minnesota Hygienic line, to defend themselves against diseases and parasitic mites. Current research includes studies of the benefits of plant resins (propolis) to honey bees, and the effects of agricultural landscapes and pesticides on bee health.

Marla's interest in bees began when she worked for a commercial beekeeper in New Mexico in 1975. She obtained her PhD from the University of Kansas in 1989 on the identification and ecology of Africanized and European honey bees in Costa Rica. She was a post-doctoral researcher at the Center for Insect Science at the University of Arizona before coming to the University of Minnesota in 1993.

Your group of 10 people will suit up and inspect a live beehive with bee expert of 20 years on the former Frick family property in Bedford, NY. Luncheon and bee presentation with Q&A on the property to follow.

This private art appreciation and drawing workshop for two to four people provides an afternoon at Storm King Art Center in Cornwall, NY honing your observational skills.

This half day workshop with artist and scientist Hara Woltz will leave you with a new understanding of the intersections between the art and nature at Storm King, and sharpened observational skills. No previous drawing experience required.

Weaving together ecology and art, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore Storm King's forests, fields, and sculptures through creative notation. Throughout history, both scientists and artists have used field journals to note their observations of the natural world and develop their ideas.

Admission to Storm King Art Center and all art supplies are included. Participants are responsible for their own transport to and from Storm King Art Center.

Hara Woltz is an environmental artist and scientist. Utilizing a variety of media, she addresses aspects of the destruction and conservation of ecological systems. Through her work, she reveals patterns, connects disciplines, and examines interactions between humans and the environment. Woltz has worked on a variety of ecological design and research projects throughout the world, most recently in the Solomon Islands with the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation at the American Museum of Natural History where she is a visiting scientist. Her paintings and drawings are in many corporate and private collections. She is the author of Storm King Art Center's Field Guide for Young Explorers.

In a one-on-one session in Alison M. Jones' NYC studio on the Upper East Side, she will review 20-40 of your images. You can discuss your goals with Alison in advance, and during your session she will share images that show various approaches and styles that could work for you, new compositional aspects, and how even common scenes can yield unique images. Preparations, cultural considerations, and editing can also be discussed.

This session will not include specific explanations of how to use or adjust your photographic equipment.
