About the artist, Amber Coppings: At an art symposium I attended in 2005, Artist Hiroko Watanabe expressed that the schism between art and craft is false. Functionality does not negate artistry. These insights solidified my commitment to using a broad spectrum of materials and processes. The ability to create both functional and non-functional work that has deep personal meaning is a driving force in my studio practice whether it be destined for a gallery wall, or someone's wardrobe.
