Join the GISB community for a very special performance by chamber music ensemble "Wizards of Saxony" in a private concert setting.

This once-in-a-lifetime event will take place in the gracious home of GISB parents Alexey and Maria Eliseev near Brookline. The concert will be followed by a light dinner and drinks where you will be able to mingle with other guests, our hosts, and the musicians.

The program will focus on the works of Johann Pisendel and his pupils Johann Gottlieb Graun and Franz Benda who were undoubtedly the greatest violinists in Germany during the 18th Century.

The program is typical of the kind of intimate house concerts that would have been performed in Dresden or Berlin at the time. Pisendel was the concert master of the Dresden Orchestra at its peak, while his two pupils Graun and Benda both spent time as concert masters of the Berlin Court Orchestra under Frederick the Great. Their music is bold, fiery, and supremely challenging. Violinist Jesse Irons, cellist Sarah Freiberg Ellison and keyboardist Andrus Madsen present sonatas by all three of these violin wizards.

GISB is extremely pleased to have gained the talents of the following musicians for our concert:

Jesse Irons, violinist is a founding member of A Far Cry, he also plays with Boston Baroque, Handel and Haydn, A Gut Reaction and numerous chamber ensembles in the New England Area. He is noted both for excellence as a modern violinist, but also for his supreme artistry as a baroque violinist.

Sarah Freiberg Ellison, cellist has been a fixture in nearly every major early music orchestra in the North East. She has played as concert master with Handel and Haydn, and Boston Baroque, and has made appearances with every major American Baroque Orchestra.

Andrus Madsen, keyboardist (harpsichord) is the founder and director of Newton Baroque. He has also appeared with Boston Baroque and A Far Cry and also plays frequently with the Worcester Chamber Music Society and Exsultemus, an excellent Boston based early music choir.
