FAQs

Can I buy a ticket for a teacher?

Yes, please! Click on the yellow "Buy Tickets" button and the Teacher Ticket will be one of the options.

Do I need to attend the Gala to bid and win auction items?

No! Everyone is welcome to bid. Only caveat--we don't ship items other than gift certificates.

Why do you need my cell phone number?

Alert texts and links for the auction will be sent directly to your phone during the auction. These will let you know how to bid, how your bid is doing, if you've won, and what to do when you've won. They will also let you know when the auction is about to close so that you can get your last bids in.

Do I need to enter my credit card before winning?

No. But many guests anticipate that they might buy something and it's much easier to enter this information while still at home or the office instead of during dinner while you're having a conversation with friends.

When does the auction end?

The Silent Auction ends at 8:45PM the night of the gala. The LIVE Auction takes place only at the gala.

I don't want to keep checking my phone all evening. Can I just place a max bid that I'm willing to pay, and then forget about it?

Yes! Click on the item that you like and place an Auto Bid! Your bid will keep increasing in increments until you either win or hit your max bid. This means you might win the item at a lower price than the max amount you're willing to pay.

What is "Elegant Evening Attire?"
Gentlemen often choose to wear a suit or jacket with or without a tie. Tuxedos are welcome. Ladies might wear an evening gown, cocktail dress, or snazzy separates.

What are the meal options?
We are serving Tuscan Salad, Grilled Korubuta Pork Loin Chops, Maple Whipped Sweet Potatoes, Brussel Sprouts w/ Smoked Bacon & Red Onion. The Vegan/Vegetarian option is Mediterranean Stuffed Peppers with Roasted Golden Pepper, Mediterranean Vegetables, Olive & Basil Filling, Chick Pea Mash, and Sweet Pepper Broth. Please send any dietary requirements to [email protected] or simply list them when you purchase your ticket.

Do you offer babysitting?
Yes. Currently enrolled students can be signed up for free babysitting with pizza and games at the GISB Upper Campus from 6:00pm to midnight. Students must be pre-registered (sorry, no drop-ins). Sign up at https://eventsignup.inresonance.com/gisbos/index.php?idevent=25

How can I get to Alden Castle?
The address is 20 Chapel St, Brookline, MA 02446. Longwood T station (Green Line "D" Branch) is directly across the street. Valet parking in garage under building is available for $15. Some parking on street.

How can I pay for items I win?
You can pay on your phone/device as soon as the auction ends, or come in person to the "Check-Out" table at the gala, starting at 10PM. Payment can be made by credit card, cash or check.

Can I pick up my won items in the days AFTER the gala?
No. Please take home all items. If you are not attending the gala, we'll make special arrangements.

How Silent Auctions Work

At Silent Auctions, generous Donors offer valuable goods or services up for sale to benefit an organization that they support. Donors generally receive no compensation for their donations--only goodwill, exposure, and a tax deduction. The bidding price of any given item usually starts at 50%-70% of the fair market price of the item, which gives room for bidding to grow. Many bidders prefer not to bid higher than the fair market price. Others intentionally allow their bids to go higher than the fair market price as a show of support for the organization and their fundraising efforts.

How to Bid:

  • Start by clicking on either of the yellow buttons above "Buy Tickets" or "Register to Participate". If you buy a ticket, you will be automatically registered to participate in the silent auction, but you do not have to attend the gala to participate.
  • Click on the item that you're interested in and fill in the pop-up form. Bidding is done online, with phones, laptops, iPads, whatever device you want. At the gala itself, we'll have volunteers walking around with iPads to help anyone who wants help bidding.
  • It is anonymous. You can see your own bids, and other bids, but you can't see anybody else's NAME, and they can't see yours.
  • At 8:45PM on Saturday, March 23, at the gala, the auction ends and the winners pay on their devices, or they come to the check-out table to pay with a credit card. The winning bidder takes their item (or a gift certificate to redeem) home with them.
  • Don't want to bother checking on your bids all the time? Click on the item that you like and place an Auto Bid! Your bid will keep increasing in increments until you either win or hit your max bid. This means you might win the item at a lower price than the max amount you're willing to pay.

Start bidding -- it's fun and it's easy!
