What is CBD? CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of hundreds of natural compounds found in the Cannabis plant.

Is CBD intoxicating? No. CBD is not able to interact with the receptors that induce psychoactivity. It's cousin THC is the compound that induces the infamous "high" associated with cannabis.

Is CBD safe? CBD is safe. In fact, a part of its appeal in the medical research community comes, in part, from how well tolerated it is. It's rarely accompanied by side-effects and when they occur, they are typically so mild that they don't interfere with one's daily routine. It has been noted that CBD has been taken safely under the tongue at doses of 300mg daily for six months. In terms of a wellness supplement, CBD is typically found in concentrations of 300mg-2,000mg per 30ml bottle (approximately 30 doses per bottle). Taking a full dropper under the tongue daily from a wellness product within this range will only contain 10mg-66.7mg per dose, much lower than the extended study that still showed safety.

What is CBD good for? CBD continues to be investigated in terms of the extent of its therapeutic potential, but so far, these are some of the areas that studies have shown CBD has a positive impact:

Is CBD legal? The passing of the 2018 Farm Bill made hemp, and all hemp-derived products federally legal. There is some confusion because while hemp-derived CBD is legal, the FDA has yet to establish guidelines regarding its manufacture and modes of consumption. This has led some states to enact their own legislation in order to protect consumers from sub-standard CBD products.

How do I choose a CBD product? The most important aspect of choosing a CBD product is the quality and transparency of the company from which you are purchasing. Make sure that they have certificates of analysis (CoAs) available for each batch number of CBD they are selling, and that their CBD is manufactured in a certified environment. The CoA ensures that you have oversight over potency and possible contamination. Ensuring that a particular CBD company uses at least a GMP certified manufacturing environment means that you can expect consistency of product that is manufactured according to specific standards.
