- All-Star Week 2019 is not just about baseball -

It's about creating a legacy for the community.

Genworth is proud to have partnered with FeedMore, United Way, and Flying Squirrels Charities. Together, these organizations cover the bases for the RVA region and residents, working towards a healthy, vibrant community every summer and this year, you can help!

By donating to the All-Star Week Legacy Fund, you will be helping FeedMore's Summer Food Service Program, United Way's Summer Learning Initiative, and Richmond Flying Squirrels Charities. Read more about each charity below.

FeedMore's Summer Food Service Program

"Summers Shouldn't Be Hungry"

With thousands of kids and teens receiving free or reduced lunch, when school ends, so do these vital programs. And their impact can be felt across our community.

However, there are places children can turn to during the hungry days of summer.

Feed More's Summer Food Service Program is a major effort to ensure that thousands of children and teens receive healthy and reliable breakfast and lunch meals, free of charge, during these critical weeks.

With close to 50 sites across greater Richmond and the Tri-Cities where kids and teens 18 years and younger can receive a healthy meal, we remain committed to providing children with the nutritional building blocks they need to learn and grow all year long.

United Way's Summer Learning Initiative

Summer spells fun for kids... but even though a "Summer Slide" sounds like fun, it's very challenging for our students and has a negative impact on learning. Students lose 2-3 months of academic skills when Summer Slide happens.

Why Summer Learning is important:
Low-income students not engaged in summer learning fall 2-3 grade levels behind their peers by the end of 5th grade.
Low-income children not reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade are 13x more likely to drop out of school.

United Way Summer Learning initiatives combines fun and learning so our children continue to thrive even when school's out. United Way joined the national movement and launched the region's first annual Summer Learning Day, dedicated to the importance of education, health and safety for children during summer vacation.

All-Star Legacy Fund Scholarship

The Richmond Flying Squirrels All-Star Legacy Scholarship was created in preparation for the Eastern League All-Star Week presented by Genworth. All-Star Week is always about more than just a baseball game - it is about creating a lasting impact in RVA through various philanthropic partnerships and programs. Through this scholarship, Richmond Flying Squirrels Charities and partners will honor RVA region students who are committed to improving their community and are involved in an athletic sport. Renovating Richmond's Recreation

Flying Squirrels Charities has collaborated with the City of Richmond to identify the youth fields most in need of assistance within the community. The needs of these fields are being addressed and enhanced to make each area a welcoming space to learn and play baseball. Funds for the ongoing projects are raised through numerous events during the calendar year including the Charity Hot Stove Event, Turn Left Golf Classic, jersey auctions and Nutzy's Rotary Funn Run & Block Party. Flying Squirrels Charities has the unique ability to connect the Flying Squirrels brand with the Greater Richmond community in an effort to optimize results through funn and versatile fundraising campaigns to benefit the Richmond community.
