WaterWorks is Harlem Stage's signature commissioning, development, producing, and presenting program that has supported new, innovative, and socially significant work of more than 50 visionary artists since 2006.

WaterWorks:

• Affirms our role as a catalyst, conduit & incubator of ideas and producer of significant work that is relevant locally, nationally and internationally.
• Artists engage our community through residency, humanities and educational activities
• Artist's commissions and performances span a 1-3-year period and cost $150,000 - $200,000 from conception to premiere.

Four WaterWorks artists have received MacArthur Genius grants.

The Frances Davis/Harlem Stage Arts Education Program develops young people's creativity, self-image and appreciation of diverse cultures.

Each year, our program:

• Engages and exposes more than 2,300 New York City public schoolchildren to the arts
• Educates school aged children and young adults who lack easy access to live performances
• Reaches children who attend schools that lack sufficient funding for arts programs
• Exposes these children to experience transformative enrichment through the arts

Our Education Program seeks to augment cultural literacy, foster respect for ethnic and cultural diversity, cultivate young people to be future audiences and engage families in the learning experience.

Harlem Stage is a performing arts center that celebrates and perpetuates the unique and diverse artistic legacy of Harlem and the indelible impression it has made on American culture.

• Supporting artists of color in the creation, development, and presentation of new works
• Making performances accessible to all audiences, 50% of our audience members see a show for free, and
• Introducing children to the rich diversity, excitement and inspiration of the performing arts.
