This faux oil painting depicts Max, a large male tiger, on alert to the possibility that an approaching vehicle may be the food truck! Note the juxtaposition of Max Tiger's starkly contrasting black and orange stripes with the soft, diffused amber tones of the evening sunlight. Note also his "sympathetic" left ear that remains perpetually cocked despite no known injury.
Max lived at Carolina Tiger Rescue. He was one of 5,000+ tigers living in captivity in the U.S., a number greater than the estimated 3,890 tigers remaining in the wild. Much work is needed to protect this critical umbrella species as it remains vulnerable to extinction.
