This Rodney King (2018) woodcarving was created by artist Pavel Acevedo as part of the embRACE L.A. initiative. embRACE L.A. is an initiative aimed at unifying Angelenos and empowering communities through a citywide conversation about race and racism challenging and changing inequities. Launched by Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson and Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell the initiative seeks to foster understanding, healing and growth throughout L.A.

embRACE L.A.'s multidimensional approach focuses on changing narratives, building relationships and advancing public policy solutions. Through a wide-variety of programs and strategies, the initiative is an unprecedented partnership between government, organizations and residents.

Pável Acevedo's formal art studies began at the Rufino Tamayo Plastic Arts Workshop in Oaxaca City. In 2006, he enrolled to complete his Bachelor's Degree in visual arts at "La Escuela de Bellas Artes/ Fine Arts School of Oaxaca", where he studied under the guidance of prolific artists Shinzaburo Takeda and Raul Herrera. In 2010 he moved to Riverside, California and got involved in printmaking projects with a social justice and educational awareness in communities of color throughout California. In 2015, he opened his printmaking studio in collaboration with "The Desert Triangle Print Carpeta". His artwork has been exhibited in different group shows between Mexico and the U.S. in public and private institutions as well individually.
