Our first experience with Camp Kudzu was Spring Family Camp in 2013. Our daughter, Jillian, was diagnosed with Type 1 in November of 2012, a few days after her fifth birthday. We were scared for our sweet little girl and the life challenges she would face with this disease. Family Camp taught us very quickly that Jillian was not on a solo journey, but one filled with new friends and a community willing to support when valleys were low and celebrate when summits were reached. Family Camp enlightened us to the effects that Type 1 has on the entire family and showed us ways to navigate the future.

When asked about Camp Kudzu, Jillian has one thing to say, "It's fun!" She first stretched her clinical abilities at Sprouts Camp, and now she continues on her path to independence at overnight camp. Beyond the bridge that camp provides between the clinical setting and home, it is a sanctuary for Jillian. She can act crazier than her normal crazy, and she can relax because she feels safe.
