In her paintings, Coulis frequently reimagines the still life genre with an eye for Cubist perspectives and visually resonant color studies. Before working on a painting, however, Coulis plays with composition, shape, and other visual elements in sketches and studies such as the one shown in Vase, Fig, Onion.
Holly Coulis received her BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design, Toronto and her MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She had solo show at Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery, New York; Sardine, Brooklyn; Cherry and Martin, Los Angeles; Atlanta Contemporary, Atlanta, USA; Claudia Groeflin Gallery, Zurich; Groeflin Maag Galerie, Basel, Switzerland; Simon Lee, London, United Kingdom. She will present a solo exhibition at SOCO Gallery in Charlotte in March.
