Incorporating influences including DIY craft techniques, tondo paintings, and high fantasy and tarot illustrations, Benson's works investigate abjection and alienation with a poetic, wry sensibility. His painting Hoarfrost Weep was included in his 2017 exhibition The Green Dragon in Chute Space at Atlanta Contemporary, where it was installed on one of four round panels suspended from the ceiling of the museum's former coal chute.
Jason Benson's recent exhibitions include a solo exhibitions at Bodega, New York, and Wreath and Atlanta Contemporary in Atlanta. Group exhibitions include shows at Et Al, San Francisco; Regards, Chicago; Exo Exo, Paris; On Stellar Rays, New York; Balice Hertling, Paris; Ellis King, Dublin; Bureau, New York; TG, Nottingham; Lodos, Mexico City; and Queer Thoughts, Chicago. He was co-director of Important Projects in Oakland from 2009-2014 and co-director of Species in Atlanta through 2017. He is represented by Bodega in New York.
