Artist Statement:

Local flora is a favorite for my printing subject matter. Growing up on Maui, I have always been particularly interested in native plants and have been influenced by the French Impressionists and their insights into color and composition. A woodblock print and a mixed media print of mine are a part of the State Collection. I am giving this woodblock print to this auction because the MACC is an important cause to support.

Jack Hamilton lives in Maui and loves to paint! To have the ability to interpret what he is seeing so he can share it with others from his beautiful island is very exciting!

His work has developed from planning out his approach to painting from an intuitive focus which he believes provides a little more of an "experience" when you view his painting.

Please know that each painting is done with love for our land and in particular, his island of Maui.

If we are on a path of self-awareness, in due course we will find our way back to our roots. For Sidney Yee, those roots were the traditions of hisChinese heritage. Yee draws connecting lines not only from his Chinese-American upbringing in Hawai'i and his experience of living here, but also from the design elements of his 20-year-long ceramics background to his recent explorations in acrylic and collage paintings.

This incredible collage was made with working sketches for commissioned murals at Kahului Airport.
