Celebrating Hope began in 2013 with seven courageous Greenwich area women. As caregivers and family members, each has confronted the overwhelming obstacles and anguish of managing Alzheimer's disease with mothers, fathers or a spouse. These women came together joined by a hope that they could indeed make a difference and join the Alzheimer's Association in their vision of a world without Alzheimer's. Their goal was to create an event in Greenwich to raise awareness and funds for the cause. With the enthusiasm of Eleonora Tornatore-Mikesh and Lexi Kennedy, they forged ahead to found Celebrating Hope. In that inaugural year the group raised more than $100,000 in two-and-half hours. The support was overwhelming. Now approaching its seventh year, Celebrating Hope is well on its way to becoming a major benefit in Greenwich.

The evening will recognize leaders in the Alzheimer's community whose support, leadership and commitment have made an impact in the fight against Alzheimer's. Together with our expected 350 guests we can work toward our vision of a world without Alzheimer's disease. The evening includes a cocktail reception, seated dinner, program, auctions and dancing!

The Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter graciously thanks the generous sponsors and donors of the Celebrating Hope Benefit for their continued support. The money raised supports the Alzheimer's Association mission: to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease and by 2050, without a cure, this number may reach 16 million. In Connecticut alone, there are 77,000 individuals over the age of 65 living with the disease and 178,000 caregivers with 203,000,000 total hours of unpaid care. It is likely that you already know someone impacted by the disease. Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only cause of death among the top 10 that cannot be prevented, treated or cured. The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research.

The Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter is the primary source of information and support to the thousands of Connecticut residents dealing with the effects of Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. With offices across the state in Norwalk, Norwich, Winsted, Hamden and our main office in Southington, we are able to offer our communities 24/7 Helpline support 1.800.272.3900, family training seminars, care consultations, Safe Return training, support groups and educational programs for both healthcare professionals and caregivers. The Chapter has influenced public policy changes and has provided support to Alzheimer's and dementia research in the hope of finding a cure.

2019 Co-Chairs:

Mary Jo and Eleni have supported the Alzheimer's Association for many years and jumped at the opportunity to co-chair the 2019 Celebrating Hope Benefit. Each has experienced first-hand the devastating effect Alzheimer's has on those who are afflicted and their families. Mary Jo's and Eleni's moms suffered for many years with Alzheimer's which slowly robbed them of their independence, memories and ultimately claimed their lives. Mary Jo's and Eleni's direct and personal experiences with the disease have motivated them to contribute more.
