In the weeks after Hurricane Helene, artist Danika Mills worked alongside her community providing disaster mental
health support across Western North Carolina, sitting with neighbors who had lost homes (and in some cases, family) and helping them find their footing again. What she carried home from that work was not
only grief, but awe: at how quickly people showed up for one another, and how the mountains themselves, scarred and reshaped by the storm, kept standing. That awe is what inspired this painted landscape.

Danika is honored to donate this painting to ABCCM in support of its work restoring stability, dignity, and hope to individuals and families across Western North Carolina.
