In need of interior design guidance? You need the advice of an expert interior designer, Amanda Rehbein who will conduct an in-home consultation to discuss a project you are taking on. Amanda will review your project along with conceptual thought-starters to gain clarity on your design direction and taste. A mood board will be provided after that includes pulled imagery and a concise write-up to help define your aesthetic and style.

This small sake pot and cup from local ceramics artist, Jeff Shapiro is both beautiful and functional. The pot measures 5.5 inches across including spout and is 3 inches high.
The cup measures 3 inches wide x 2.5 inches tall.

About the Artist
Jeff Shapiro was born in the Bronx, NY in 1949. He presently works and lives in upstate NY with his wife Hinako. He studied ceramic arts while living in Japan for 9 years from 1973-1981. His work has been exhibited internationally in: Germany, France, Italy, Australia, Switzerland, Canada, England, and Japan. His work can be found in numerous Museum collections including: The Carlo Zauli Museum, Faenza, Italy, The Massachusetts Museum of Fine Art, Boston MA, The Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY, The Everson Museum, Syracuse, NY, The Fuller Museum, Brockton, MA. Jeff has given workshops and seminars in many countries around the world, and has built two wood fire kilns in Italy.

Native Plant Landscape Consultation - Site Visit and Analysis with Angela Sisson

Learn about your landscape and how to start a pollinator garden or how to reduce your lawn with a native meadow. The first step in changing to a more nature-friendly landscape is an analysis of your property. The process of establishing native plants is oftentimes very different from conventional horticultural practices. Instead of amending garden soils, or installing irrigation, or changing structural elements, native-plant landscaping relies more heavily on the existing site conditions. For example, if soils are sandy and drain rapidly, rather than amending soils to accommodate certain plants, drought-tolerant native plants would be used instead.

During a site visit we will discuss the scope of an analysis which typically includes a listing or inventory of the existing conditions of your landscape such as: Plants, (horticultural and wild, native and exotic); Sun/Shade; Moisture; Soil; Slope, Drainage, Hydrology; Views; and History. We will also discuss your ideas and how you would like to use your property.

After the visit, you will receive a written report detailing your site conditions and everything we talked about including recommendations on how to proceed with your landscape.

Angela Sisson is an ecological landscape designer with nearly 20 years of experience using native plants. She is experienced in residential and municipal site analysis and holds a Master of Landscape Design degree from The Conway School. Angela initiated the Wallkill Valley Pollinator Pathway in 2020 and is a founder of the Wild Ones Mid-Hudson Valley chapter which chartered in February 2024.

What Is Raku?

Raku is a fast-firing, ceramic process that was first done in Japan over 500 years ago. The Japanese fired their ware in small kilns that were opened when red hot. The pieces were removed and either quenched in water or left to air cool. In 1960 a California potter, Paul Soldner 'Americanized' the raku process by submerging the quick-fired pottery in combustibles rather than quenching them in water. This process produces finishes that are interesting and impossible to replicate.

It is cut with a plasma cutter to create the unique shape, polished, and then mounted on a wooden base. Shorebird can be displayed indoors or outdoors. To maintain a polished surface it should stay indoors. Left outdoors, the piece will develop a weathered rust patina.
