Interested in learning more about the progress of the Kleine Kill Restoration Project? This hike is for you and your group of up to 6.

Co-led by Mohonk Preserve Directors Paloma Krakower, Director of Conservation and Community Education and Chuck Reid, Director of Land Stewardship, this approximately 2 - 3 hour land tour will start at Pine Road as your group hikes up the newly refurbished Duck Pond Trail and Lower Duck Pond carriage road to view the site and learn about the importance of restoring this piece of land to its natural state. You'll find out what has been done, the planned dam removal and how continued ecological monitoring and intervention efforts will improve the biodiversity of the area. Learn firsthand from those most closely involved with the project.

Note: Participants must be able to hike up to two miles at slow to moderate pace. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring water and any snacks you may want.

Set aside as an American treasure in 1915 under the National Park Service, Dinosaur National Monument is an open-air archive of ancient Native American sites and far-out fossils unearthed by wind, water, and time. Within the monument, the Green River rafting trip winds its way through three distinct canyons: Lodore, Whirlpool, and Split Mountain, all of which contain geological curiosities and rich human history. Lodore was the first major canyon encountered by John Wesley Powell and his men on their 1869 expedition. At its start, the river twists through a catacomb of scarlet slot canyons, yawning valleys, and lush ledges of emerald evergreen and brush. Exploration is the mission of the day as the Green promises numerous side hikes, relaxing nights on the beach, and moderate whitewater perfect for young families and laid-back vacationers.

Experience first-hand what our land protection staff does to monitor the Preserve's boundaries. You and a friend will spend between a half and a full day with the Preserve's Associate Director of Land Protection & GIS, Ed Pestone, as you learn how to navigate using a survey map and elements on the ground such as stone walls, hedgerows, fence lines and property blazes. You'll learn how to identify property corners, understand how property lines are signed (posting protocol), and use a mobile app for GPS. You'll go off trail and get to see hidden locations that others rarely visit - and all with a purpose!

Notes: Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Limit two people. Please bring your own lunch/snacks and water.

Meet & Greet with Legendary Marathoner Kathrine Switzer

Kathrine Switzer is best known for being the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon in 1967 before women were allowed to enter the race. The iconic photo of the race director attempting to pull off her bib number -261- and throw her out of the race captured headlines around the world and catapulted her into the sports-activist spotlight. Kathrine's many accomplishments include running 42 marathons, winning the New York City Marathon, advocating to make the women's marathon an official Olympic event, winning 3 Emmy Awards and authoring three books. Today, Kathrine leads the global nonprofit "261 Fearless" empowering women in 13 countries through running and education.

Get out on the land with the Preserve's forest ecologist, Jaxson Mack. This new experience for up to four people, will include learning to identify native and invasive plant species, strategies for monitoring forest health, and developing restoration plans. Total active time is expected to be 5 hours with 2.5 hours in the morning, a break for lunch, and 2.5 hours in the afternoon. Participants should be able to traverse uneven forest terrain and hills, walking up to a mile or more and be willing to get hands on while working on projects.

Spring Birding Tour for up to Six

Join Mohonk Preserve's Associate Director of Conservation Science & Research, Megan Napoli, for a guided birding tour in the Mohonk Preserve Foothills (or Preserve location of your choice!). Your group will receive a personal birding education session where you'll learn to identify birds by sight and by sound, information on how to make your backyard bird-friendly, and what tools you can use to aid your birding identification skills. You'll also learn the actions the Mohonk Preserve takes to protect natural habitats and the impacts of climate change on our regional bird population and answer any questions you may have.

A beverage of your choice such as coffee or tea and snacks will be provided as well as a copy of Sibley Birds East, Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America to help you identify our fine feathered friends.

Length of birding session is approximately 2-3 hours, and length of travel can be up to you, but is generally between 2 - 5 miles. Your choice of season for birding session! In late fall and winter, bird feeders with seed and suet can attract many of our resident (non-migratory) species so this is an ideal time to learn your local bird species. In spring, especially in early May, there is the possibility of seeing migrant species passing through on their way to breeding territories - such as warblers, flycatchers, vireos, etc. In early summer, birds are nesting and raising young and so we'll discover who's chosen the Preserve as their breeding territory.

Note: Please initiate communication about scheduling your birding session at least six weeks prior to your ideal time.
