Gunes Goker
Galata Apartments
Photography
13 x 19 in.
Artist Bio
Gunes Goker is a 18 year old filmmaker and photographer born and raised in Istanbul, Turkiye later moved to Chicago in 2015. His creative practice explores movement, memory, identity, and minute details of everyday life. Working across both moving and still images, he is interested in the relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit, and the ways photography can preserve moments that might otherwise be lost to time.
Photography has been a central part of Goker's practice. Alongside commissioned and collaborative work documenting dance companies and performers, he maintains a deeply personal photo archive of his own life and travels. Images primarily taken on 35mm and medium-format film using vintage cameras.
Goker's work with dance is rooted in a fascination with movement and the human body in space. Photographing dancers and companies requires an awareness of gesture, rhythm, and timing. This carries into Goker's broader photographic practice, where spontaneity and careful observation exist next to one another.
Across their practice, Goker is drawn to images that feel honest, intimate, and lived-in. Whether it is photographing a dancer in motion or an ordinary moment from daily life, his work seeks to find meaning in the fleeting and the personal, using photography as a tool for both observation and remembrance.
"Galata Apartments" - Taken from a rooftop adjacent to the famous "Galata Tower," but I find these apartments and their texture and color more interesting (35mm, Olympus OM-1N)

Painting

I've been doing art for years now and I've recently started getting into bigger pieces of art and different personal projects! This piece is something I took a lot of time on that I had made as fan art for one of my favorite series. I sincerely hope people see the effort I put in to make this piece tell a part of the story I took inspiration from.

Art has also been a good coping mechanism with my emotions and allows me to express anything that I am interested in.

I really enjoy making traditional art, from pencil to acrylic paint. These days I've been trying to go out of my comfort zone and experiment with different mediums, like watercolor, the media I used for my submission, but also branching out into digital art. I think watercolor is a very experimental and interesting medium. You can achieve unique results from it and no result will be the same. Which is why I really enjoyed making this piece, seeing the water sort of bleed into each other and that be shown on paper is why I find it so beautiful.

Cielo
Heartless
11 x 9 in.
Hi, my name is Cielo! I am a young Puerto Rican artist who has loved to make art from a young age. I get a lot of my inspiration from my favorite musical artists and a whole bunch of my inspiration from fashion! I haven't learned how to sew or upcycle clothes yet, but I love designing my outfits, finding a style, piling on accessories, and expressing my feelings each day with what I wear. I like to dress in a way where people remember me. I also love business wear, suits, vests, and ties. As far as my drawings go, I mostly draw people, or musical artists I look up to. Sometimes I draw what I feel when I can't put it into words. I try my best not to make every piece of my art look the same. I do this because every piece of art is unique and different, just like people. I want every person to find art that represents them, their personality or culture.

Hello, my name is Lunar Bodino. I am a young artist who aspires to be an illustrator for my career. I mostly like to work with flowers in my artwork because of the many meanings and symbolism they carry, and because they can create a deep connection with my audience.
I also like to draw every day, not just as a hobby, but because art has become a natural part of my life. My preferred mediums to work with are digital art, pencil, pen, acrylic markers, and acrylic paint.
The reason why I do art is to express my feelings, and maybe make a connection with other people who feel like they are not being heard.

When I crochet I don't use a pattern which makes my work different because it is not always perfect and gives my creations personality. When I see a cute crochet animal that I like I use it as inspiration for a new project. I think my creations are very creative and cute, and I hope other people see them as I do.

"Godzilla" is a screenprint of the Judgement tarot card. Depending on the movie, Godzilla is a force of nature punishing humanity for its wrongdoings, or a defender of the earth and humanity. Judgement and punishment depends on one's perspective, so Godzilla can be a protector or a punisher. The top corners have 1954 and a radioactive symbol, signifying the year of its creation and the inspiration for the kaiju.

Hermit
"Hermit" is a screenprint of the character Alva Lorenz for the Hermit tarot card. His worldview is shattered by an accident, the science he studies doesn't explain the betrayal he experienced, he withdraws from the life he had, and he instead turns to the mystical forces of the god that gave him new purpose. His fascination is aimed at the mysterious key he has, and the electrical power imbued within his staff.
Self Defense
14 x 17 3/4 in.
"Self Defense" is a linoleum print of a sheep biting a hand, their neck is tied to a rope and a knife is dropped out of the other hand. The general message is that defense doesn't rid you of your innocence, it is a natural thing to not want to be taken advantage of and fight back.

"I Love You Bones and All"
16 x 20 x 1 in.
Hi! My name is Damian Reyes. I am a photographer here in Chicago. I started going to Marwen in 2024, but recently, with everything going on here in Chicago and with schoolwork, I haven't been able to go as much anymore. For this year's Art Fair, I will submit one painting. I don't paint much, and I mostly submit photography, but I decided to change it up this year. The painting is HEAVILY inspired by the movie "Bones and All". Since the painting is on a scene of them by almost the end of the movie, sitting close to each other. I decided to paint it in a different style. I really like the "Threshold" option on Photoshop, so I put it through Photoshop and used it as my reference. That's mostly all about it! I hope everybody enjoys it as much as I do. :)

Self Reflection
13.875 x 10.25 in.
"Self Reflection" is a study done of my own eyes, and to me captures an introspective mood, as looking into someone's eyes can give you deeper insight into how they're feeling, even when they're your own.
Study of a Tree

"Study of a Tree" exemplifies my love for saturated color, dramatic lighting, and variety of texture through mixed media of oil pastel, acrylic paint marker, colored pencil, and marker. The study was done of a tree in Mill Run, PA while attending Marwen's Artward Bound Artist Residency to Fallingwater.
