Printmaking

Artist Bio

Liana Faletto is an artist and educator, working primarily in printmaking and illustration. A largely self-taught printmaker, Liana's print practice was born from experimentation while studying various print techniques.

Her work is primarily rooted in monotype, a process that allows for versatility and impulsive trial. Through an intuitive and additive approach to composition, her monotype prints take shape from unplanned reactions to color, form, and the materials around her. Viewers are compelled to look closer and notice moments of movement in curves and directional lines as well as delicate details like etched plates, unique textures, and embossments.

A Chicago native, Liana received her BA in visual arts education from DePaul University where she began experimenting with printmaking in 2011. She is an active exhibiting member of the art and print community in Chicago.

Printmaking

Artist Bio

Most of my work is figurative in nature. It explores how people who inhabit the same space physically, can experience completely different realities based on their identities. My latest pieces explore the intersecting worlds and experiences of mother and child.

My work is also about relationships, between people and between objects. I am interested in power dynamics, and the group vs. the individual. In my drawings and paintings I enjoy playing with the tension between two and three-dimensional space, and I explore how shapes, lines and textures can evoke emotions and memories.

Hello! Im going into my senior year and me second year of Marwen LABs and I've decided to sell some of the prints I made during my residency and during my school year! I'm hoping to sell more prints outside of ArtFair so contact me if you're interested in buying any! I also post some of my art occasionally on some of my socials so if you want to just check those out I'd really appreciate it.

"Godzilla" is a screenprint of the Judgement tarot card. Depending on the movie, Godzilla is a force of nature punishing humanity for its wrongdoings, or a defender of the earth and humanity. Judgement and punishment depends on one's perspective, so Godzilla can be a protector or a punisher. The top corners have 1954 and a radioactive symbol, signifying the year of its creation and the inspiration for the kaiju.

"Hermit" is a screenprint of the character Alva Lorenz for the Hermit tarot card. His worldview is shattered by an accident, the science he studies doesn't explain the betrayal he experienced, he withdraws from the life he had, and he instead turns to the mystical forces of the god that gave him new purpose. His fascination is aimed at the mysterious key he has, and the electrical power imbued within his staff.

"Self Defense" is a linoleum print of a sheep biting a hand, their neck is tied to a rope and a knife is dropped out of the other hand. The general message is that defense doesn't rid you of your innocence, it is a natural thing to not want to be taken advantage of and fight back.

"When Did The Flower Start To Wither?" (Phase 1)

Printmaking

11 x 14 in.

Artist Bio

Today's society is constantly moving at a fast pace, whether by trying to keep up with the ever changing latest trends or thinking about the next thing that needs to be accomplished to live our desired lives. As a result, we have forgotten the importance of slowing down and appreciating what we have in front of us, especially the little things.

The artwork focuses on the details of flowers, such as the lines on their petals and its subtle color transformation from its blooming to withering stage. Those details are emphasized in order to have the viewer truly observe what they have been overlooking and ease them into a state of calmness and reflection.

The title refers to the idea that due to us, as a society, being consumed by our own lives and social media, we don't notice the transition of seasons. By only seeing a flower at its state of beauty and its death, we might ask "When Did The Flower Start To Wither?"
