Care Bear Collection: Still Life
8 x 6 in. (framed 10 x 8 in.)
In my mini series of work, I took inspiration from my upbringing. Growing up having limited access to better quality art supplies, I used what I can to practice and draw what was around me such as my grandma's flowers in her yard, my mom's kitchen mugs or her jewelry, my stuffed animals and so on. I made this series of work with the intention to use ballpoint pen to show the patience of how to capture the light, shadow and texture of my subjects using a medium you cannot erase, but can always work around with.

Cielo
Heartless
11 x 9 in.
Hi, my name is Cielo! I am a young Puerto Rican artist who has loved to make art from a young age. I get a lot of my inspiration from my favorite musical artists and a whole bunch of my inspiration from fashion! I haven't learned how to sew or upcycle clothes yet, but I love designing my outfits, finding a style, piling on accessories, and expressing my feelings each day with what I wear. I like to dress in a way where people remember me. I also love business wear, suits, vests, and ties. As far as my drawings go, I mostly draw people, or musical artists I look up to. Sometimes I draw what I feel when I can't put it into words. I try my best not to make every piece of my art look the same. I do this because every piece of art is unique and different, just like people. I want every person to find art that represents them, their personality or culture.

Building
11 x 14 in.
I am an artist and an art educator. I have been making art throughout my life starting from when I was very young. In my own practice I like to give myself challenges in order get started. For example, only use older art supplies make something unexpected like a new line or think of an artist and implement one of their techniques. This piece was created with all older broken oil pastels and I had the artist Stanley Whitney on my mind. I believe that it's almost impossible to copy others artwork because the hand of an artist is innately unique. Stanley Whitney's use of color is dazzling to me. The piece that is shown here doesn't look like anything I have made before but the lines and strokes could only be mine. You are an artist too.

Innocent gaze
21 x 30 x 609.11 in.
I am Raul, I can say my art is very abstract and sometimes random. I like to be unique. I would describe my art as cartoony but I also like to throw in some realism. I get very happy when it comes to drawing, I love it but sometimes you find me leaving pieces unfinished. I was a previous student at Marwen, I really forgot when I started it's been a while since I've step foot in Marwen. Thank you !

I'm an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Pilsen, Chicago. My art currently takes the shape of ceramic objects, installations, and performances. In my work and practice, I seek to expand systems of duality by engaging curiosity and welcoming nuance. Exploring peripheral narratives through color and form, the work finds meaning in instances of loss, love, and the spaces in between.
